New CandyMonium Roller Coaster Completes First Test Run At Hersheypark
Although amusement parks around the world have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction and planning hasn’t totally stopped behind-the-scenes. Work continues at some parks on new attractions, including at Hersheypark, where Candymonium completed its first test run today.
CandyMonium will open as the main attraction for the park’s brand new Chocolatetown area. Chocolatetown is Hersheypark’s $150 million expansion which will include a new front gate entrance; restaurant, bar and patio; ice cream parlor and confectionery scratch kitchen; a Starbucks; and a flagship retail store with the largest collection of Hersheypark merchandise.
CandyMonium features a 210-foot drop on a 4,636-foot run traveling at speeds of a top speed of 76 mph, making this the park’s longest, tallest, and fastest roller coaster. The layout features seven camel back hills and a 123-degree hammerhead curve, finishing with a banked curve that wraps around the park’s new icon, the Kisses Fountain. The track is colored to match the Hershey’s signature milk-chocolate while the trains are themed to represent the popular Hershey Company brands of Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Twizzlers. Fans can watch the announcement video along with a POV here.

Pennsylvania is currently re-opening businesses in the state using a 3-phase plan to open the state consisting of red, yellow, and then green phase. Harrisburg PA, where Hesheypark is located, is currently in the red phase with no entertainment venues operating. Hersheypark is planning on a early June opening, pending approval from state authorities. But, there’s no specific opening date set. They are preparing to have CandyMonium ready for its 2020 season opener whenever that may be.
