World’s Tallest Log Flume Coming to Carowinds
Carowinds is set to raise the bar for water attractions with the addition of Rip Roarin’ Falls, a record-breaking super flume scheduled to open in 2027.

The new attraction will blend the classic appeal of a traditional log flume with modern ride technology, creating an experience unlike anything currently found in North America. When it opens, Rip Roarin’ Falls will feature a final drop exceeding 100 feet, making it the tallest log flume drop in the world.

The ride will also set two additional world records for the tallest reverse drop (yes, that does mean backwards!) and tallest reverse camelback, (yes, that means backwards again!) giving Carowinds three world records in a single attraction.

Built by WhiteWater, Rip Roarin’ Falls will take guests on a six-and-a-half-minute journey through the remains of a mysterious abandoned lumber mill. Riders will board eight-passenger boats and travel through more than 2,200 feet of winding waterways, complete with two high-speed reversing track switches that send the boats both forward and backward throughout the experience.

The adventure concludes with a dramatic plunge from more than 100 feet in the air, reaching speeds of up to 50 mph before crashing into a massive splashdown below.

Despite its record-breaking profile, Rip Roarin’ Falls is being designed as a family-friendly attraction. Riders as short as 35 inches tall will be able to experience the ride when accompanied by an adult, making it accessible to a wide range of guests.

Construction is already underway near Fury 325 in the park’s Thrill Zone. The attraction will occupy the former site of Rip Roarin’ Rapids, a longtime park favorite that was removed in 2019.
The addition continues a major period of growth for Carowinds, which has expanded significantly over the past decade with attractions such as Fury 325, Copperhead Strike and Snoopy’s Racing Railway. Once complete, Rip Roarin’ Falls will add a unique blend of water ride thrills and coaster-style elements to the park’s lineup.
Alongside the attraction announcement, Carowinds also unveiled a new Membership program. Currently available starting at just $8 per month, a Carowinds Membership includes admission to both Carowinds and Carolina Harbor Waterpark for the remainder of the 2026 season and all of 2027, allowing guests to experience Rip Roarin’ Falls when it debuts. Higher-tier membership options also include access to several additional Six Flags parks across the eastern United States, adding even more value for regional travelers and coaster enthusiasts.
“Our new membership program is another reason why Carowinds remains one of the most valuable entertainment options in the Carolinas,” said Carowinds President Bridgette Bywater. “We provide affordable access to fun, and with the debut of Rip Roarin’ Falls, guests will be treated to unlimited splash downs and record-breaking drops all season.”
With construction already underway, guests won’t have to wait long to watch this record-breaking attraction take shape.
