Massive 450ft Crane Arrives To Construct Six Flags Great Adventure’s Record-Breaking Roller Coaster

Construction on Six Flags Great Adventure’s highly anticipated new roller coaster for 2027 reached another significant milestone this week with the arrival of a massive crane that will soon tower over the project site.

The crane, which is currently being assembled, will eventually stand approximately 450ft tall once completed. Its main structure rises roughly 350ft, with an additional jib extending its reach to help crews install some of the coaster’s highest track and support elements.

The arrival of the towering piece of equipment offers guests their clearest indication yet of the incredible scale of the project currently known as “Project Purple.” When complete, the attraction is expected to rank among the five tallest roller coasters in the world while setting multiple records.

“The scale of this project continues to come into focus with each new construction milestone,” said Ryan Eldredge, Director of Sales & Marketing at Six Flags Great Adventure. “The arrival of the crane represents another exciting step toward bringing this groundbreaking attraction to life and gives guests a sense of just how impressive the finished coaster will be.”

Work on the attraction has continued to progress throughout the spring. Multiple launch track sections have already been installed, while crews continue assembling track and supports across the construction site.

While Six Flags has not yet revealed the coaster’s official name or full specs, the project remains on schedule for a 2027 debut. Additional details are expected to be announced as construction continues.

The crane arrival comes during a very busy time for Six Flags Great Adventure as the park continues investing in its future. New for 2026 is Shoreline Pier, a reimagined Boardwalk area featuring five attractions, including four new ride experiences, along with new dining options, entertainment, and Jersey Shore-inspired theming.
