Your Guide To New Theme Park Attractions In 2018
Over the past few weeks, a lot of parks have made their announcements for 2018. We’re keeping it simple and compiling all of the 2018 major announcements in one place.
Back in January, SeaWorld San Diego announced they would be adding a new roller coaster in 2018 called Electric Eel. The ride will be a Premier Rides Sky Rocket II model — the second for the chain. The first, Tempesto, can be found at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg VA. Standing 150 feet at the highest point, riders will go forward and backwards before entering an intense heartline inversion. Electric Eel will not only be SeaWorld San Diego’s fastest and tallest ride, it will include a 60mph triple launch giving riders the park’s first upside down view of Mission Bay!

Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios – Orlando, FL
Disney World is debuting an all new area at Hollywood Studios dubbed as Toy Story Land. Here, you’ll find yourself shrunk to the size of a toy to explore the world of Andy’s backyard with your favorite Toy Story characters, including Woody and Buzz. The feature attraction is a new roller coaster called Slinky Dog Dash; a family coaster attraction with similar characteristics of the Seven Dwarf Mine Train that opened last year at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. The new ride features a coaster track that Toy Story’s Andy has built all over his backyard using his Mega Coaster Play Kit. But, as you know, he has a pretty amazing imagination, so he’s combined it with some of his other toys!

Cedar Point – Sandusky Ohio
A little more than a year after announcing that Meanstreak would be closing, Cedar Point announced the Meanstreak re-do, Steel Vengeance. RMC is handling the re-do and when it opens, it will be the tallest and fastest hybrid coaster in the world reaching speeds of 74 mph and a height of 205 feet. As if that wasn’t enough, it will feature 27.2 seconds of airtime – the most of any coaster.

Kings Island – Mason Ohio
Kings Island announced this year that they will be adding the season Fast Lane pass for the 2018 season.
Knott’s Berry Farm – Beuna Park, CA
Knott’s Berry Farm has a legacy in roller coaster innovation and their addition of HangTime in 2018 is no exception. HangTime will be the first dive coaster on the West Coast when it makes its debut next year. The new coaster will send riders up a 150 ft vertical lift hill into a 15-story 96-degree drop – the steepest drop in California. The train will halt at the highest peak, leaving riders suspended at the crest for several seconds staring downward at a 60-degree angle, giving the illusion of a disappearing track. After the drop, riders will be sent through five gravity-defying inversions. HangTime will be only the second roller coaster in the Western Hemisphere to feature a negative-g stall loop that gives riders the sensation of floating. Finally, the ride structure will come to life at night and illuminate the Boardwalk area with colorful track chase lighting that will accompany the train as it travels.

Canada’s Wonderland – Ontario, Canada
Sticking to the timbers theme from their 2017 addition of Soaring Timbers, Canada’s Wonderland is getting two new flat rides – Lumberjack and Flying Canoes. Lumberjack will send riders swinging 75 feet in the air in a 360 degree loops on axe shaped pendulums. Flying Canoes in an interactive family ride. Two riders board each canoe and control it as t flies through the air. In addition, the park is expanding the children’s pool in it’s waterpark and adding interactive spray features. After the expansion, the pool will be double its current size.

California’s Great America – Santa Clara, CA
California’s Great America is adding a new single rail steel coaster, RailBlazer. The first coaster of its kind on the west coast, the design requires riders to straddle the rail, creating an extremely low center of gravity that amplifies every move and enables more dynamic turns and rotations. Also unique to the new track style is a single file train that holds eight passengers. RailBlazer will send riders up to a height of 106 feet before sending them down at a 90-degree angle through a series of steeply banked turns, three inversions and a zero gravity roll.

Kings Dominion – Doswell, VA
After months of waiting, we finally know that King’s Dominion is re-doing Hurler into Twisted Timbers. It will feature a 109 ft barrel roll drop, 3 over-banked turns and 20 airtime hills. It will reach heights of 111 ft and speeds of 54 mph. In addition, Winterfest will be coming to King’s Dominion in 2018.

Carowinds – Charlotte, NC
Carowinds announced a re-imagined kids area for 2018. Planet Snoopy is being transformed into Camp Snoopy. The expanded area will have new rides, a climb and play area and a more natural looking midway. The six new kid-friendly attractions debuting are Woodstock Whirlybirds, Beagle Scout Acres (a climb and play area), Pig Pen’s Mud Buggies, Camp Bus, Kite Eating Tree and Trailblazers. In addition, Carowinds will debut the Pre-K Pass that provides complimentary admission for kids three to five years of age.

Dorney Park – Allentown, PA
Dorney Park will be adding the Pre-K Pass for the 2018 season. The Pre-K pass will provide complimentary admission for kids three to five. Register now to get unlimited admission for 2017 as well! Wildwater Kingdom will also be getting a new dining location called Tidal Wave Cafe. The nautical themed restaurant will feature hand-battered fried shrimp, rotisserie chicken, hand-breaded chicken tenderloins and house-smoked pulled pork. You’ll be glad to know that it will be on the dining plan as well!
Valleyfair – Shakopee, Minnesota
Valleyfair is turning things upside down in 2018 with the addition of Delirious, a looping thrill ride. The actual structure stands 70-feet tall and sends the 24-person train looping around the track. The train gains momentum as it races around the track until it slows to suspend riders upside-down before changing directions. The new ride will be located in the Route 76 nostalgia-themed area of the park.
Silver Dollar City – Branson, Missourri
Silver Dollar City is breaking records with Time Traveler, the World’s Fastest, Steepest and Tallest Complete-Circuit Spinning Roller Coaster. This is the park’s biggest attraction ever as they worked with MACK RIDES to create a custom-designed one-of-a-kind ride that combines a variety of coaster elements. The new coaster features a custom-engineered 90-degree drop right out of the station, sending riders dropping down an Ozark mountainside. It also features three inversions – a Dive Loop, a Vertical Loop and a Zero-G Roll. In addition, riders will be launched not once, but twice. The first, 0 to 47 mph in 3 seconds and then 30 to 45 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas – San Antonio, TX
Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio) is adding a new single rail steel coaster called Wonder Woman: Golden Lasso Coaster. Billed as the first coaster of its kind, the design requires riders to straddle the 15.5 inch wide rail, creating an extremely low center of gravity that amplifies every move and enables more dynamic turns and rotations. Also unique to the new track style is a single file train that holds eight passengers. Wonder Woman: Golden Lasso Coaster will send riders up about 100 feet feet before sending them down at a 90-degree angle through a series of steeply banked turns, three inversions and a zero gravity roll.
