Voodoo Doughnut Soft Opens At Universal Orlando CityWalk
If you’re a doughnut fan like us, you’ll be excited by this addition to Universal CityWalk. Voodoo Doughnuts will be making its grand opening this Spring. The bake shop is known for their wonderfully eclectic doughnut creations featuring flavors and designs you probably won’t see in your ordinary bakery! Loved for its sinfully delicious, delightfully weird lineup of fried creations, this unique doughnut shop from Portland, Oregon built a cult following that led to multiple locations throughout the states. Now, they’re taking their delicious fried delicacies to Orlando, which will be their first location east of the Mississippi.
Earlier today, we stopped by during a soft opening to try some of their outlandish creations – Take a tour of the new shop in the video below! (photo tour at end of article)
The CityWalk menu boasts over 50 difference types of doughnuts meaning there’s definitely something for everyone. Their wide range of options includes both cake doughnuts and raised doughnuts along with devil’s food, fritters and shells. They even have 13 vegan options!
While we can’t talk about every doughnut on the menu (even though we’d like to eat them all!), we did pick out some of the doughnuts we’re most excited to try this spring.
Oh Captain My Captain: This doughnut brings back the nostalgia of delicious sugary breakfast cereal. The “captain” in this doughnuts name stands for Captain Crunch (arguably the best cereal of all cereals). This doughnut is vanilla frosted and topped with Captain Crunch cereal.
Voodoo Bubble: Bubble gum is a curious concept for a doughnut and one that piqued our interest looking through the Voodoo Doughnuts menu. The doughnut is vanilla frosted but then it’s topped with bubble gum dust. It also comes with a piece of double bubble in the center. Clearly Voodoo Doughnuts is trying to play into our feelings of nostalgia and its working.
Pot Hole: This one caught our eye because Oreo inevitably makes any dessert better. This doughnut is Bavarian cream filled and chocolate frosted. Best of all, the doughnut is topped with Oreo. It even comes with a frosted yellow line to make it look like a road.
Maple Bacon Bar: This one may be slightly self-explanatory. It’s a maple frosted doughnut with strips of bacon on top. But, we firmly believe that bacon makes everything better, so we’re excited to give this one a try.
Voodoo Doll: Voodoo Doll is the namesake doughnut here and we can’t leave it from this list. Like the name suggests, its shaped like a voodoo doll, complete with arms and face. It’s chocolate frosted and filled with raspberry jelly.
Tangfastic: Tang was made popular by NASA when it was used on the Mercury flight. It also holds the award of first powdered drink. This doughnut is vanilla frosted and actually covered in Tang and comes with three marshmallows on top. So, if you want to feel like an astronaut, go ahead and give this one a try.
Diablos Rex: As fans of chocolate, we couldn’t leave this one off our list. This one is a chocolate cake doughnut covered in chocolate frosting. To keep with its name, it also has red sprinkles and a vanilla frosting pentagram with chocolate chips in the middle.
You might guess from the name and themes of some of the doughnuts here that Voodoo Doughnuts is quite outlandish in their creations. The rest of their menu is similar with some outrageous names and delicious creations. Here’s some photos from our sneak peek tour.
Guests can even buy a casket full of doughnuts, that’s what we opted for!
And a casket of doughnuts officially in the trunk!!
Voodoo Doughnut is located next to NBC Sports Grill & Brew, just steps away from the iconic Universal Globe and Universal Studios Florida entrance. Which doughnut will you try first? Let us know in the comments below or on socials!
