Mardi Gras Festival To Kick Of 2018 Season At Six Flags America
A brand new festival is going to Six Flags America this season. The Mardi Gras Festival will celebrate the spirit of the Big Easy with live street bands, New Orleans-inspired food and drinks, street performers and more than 50,000 vibrant purple, gold and green beads. The festival will kick off the park’s 2018 season, running from opening day on March 30 through April 8. Park President Rick Howarth says,
“Six Flags is the industry leader in innovation and new experiences, and our new Mardi Gras Festival will thrill the whole family with the sights, sounds and delicious flavors of New Orleans. The festival is an exciting kick-off as we welcome guests for our 20th anniversary season.”
Guests will be able to enjoy authentic Cajun cuisine including jambalaya, Po’boys, cajun fries, beignets, and specialty King Cake funnel cakes. Adult beverages like New Orleans Hurricanes, Ragin Rita’s and Bayou Bullfrogs will round out the menu.
Members and Season Pass Holders can get an exclusive head start on the fun at Pass Holder Preview Night from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29. As the highlight of the evening, four couples will take a 14-story plunge into marriage during the Voodoo “I Dooooooo” Drop Tower Wedding.
Later this summer, the action-packed river adventure, Wahoo River, will make its official debut at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor waterpark. Wahoo River will be 33% wider and over 40% longer than the former Castaway Creek. Guests will have a splashing good time as they float along the river, encountering wall sprayers, aqua archways, and tippy water cones. Other special features include:
- A wave generator that pulses waves every few seconds propelling guests down the water channel;
- Colorful buckets dropping gallons of refreshing water from above; and
- Nearly 2,500 feet of new deck space with hundreds of deck chairs.
