VIDEO: Progress Update on New TRON Coaster At Walt Disney World

The Walt Disney Imagineering project team will soon celebrate a significant milestone on construction of the new TRON: Lightcycle Run attraction coming to Magic Kingdom. After many months of construction, guests will finally be getting their first glimpses of the actual ride vehicles on the track.

As the next phase of ride testing begins, the team will start a process known as “push/pull,” where sections of the seven-vehicle train are slowly moved through the entire ride track. This testing ensures that TRON’s unique “lightcycle”-styled trains will have the appropriate clearance throughout the 3,169 feet of track.

Once the track is deemed completely ready, trains will begin launch tests at incremental speeds, with the team eventually working their way up to full-speed launches. After that phase, Disney will then proceed to launch testing, followed by test runs with weighted “dummies” on the coaster.

All of this exciting progress will be visible to guests in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park as trains make their way out of the launch zone and underneath the attraction’s iconic canopy.

Check out this new video for an in depth behind-the-scenes look with Executive Ride Engineer, Jerold Kaplan.

Walt Disney World has yet to announce an opening date for the new Vekoma Custom Designed Family Coaster, but based on the progress thus far, we expect an early 2023 opening.
