World’s Tallest and Fastest Spinning Coaster Featuring An Upside Down Launch Coming To Six Flags Great Adventure
Six Flags Great Adventure (New Jersey), has officially revealed BAKUNAWA, an all new record breaking roller coaster that will headline the park’s reimagined Boardwalk when it opens in 2027.
Manufactured by Germany’s Mack Rides, The massive attraction introduces several industry firsts, including the world’s first upside down launch, where riders accelerate from 60 to 80 mph while completely inverted. Combined with the world’s first free spinning floorless coaster trains, BAKUNAWA delivers an experience unlike anything currently operating. Standing 382 feet tall and reaching speeds of 100 mph, it also becomes the tallest and fastest spinning coaster ever built.
Unlike traditional launch coasters, BAKUNAWA features the world’s first free spinning, floorless coaster trains. Each five car train seats 20 riders in back to back seating arrangements, with every vehicle rotating independently throughout the ride. Because the spinning is completely free, no two rides will ever be exactly the same.
The 2 minute, 17 second experience begins with a powerful LSM launch that accelerates riders from 0 to 60 mph before climbing high above the Boardwalk. From there, the intensity continues to build with two additional launches, including the world’s first upside down launch that accelerates riders from 60 to 80 mph while completely inverted.
The third and final launch sends the train racing from 80 to 100 mph before climbing the towering 382 foot spire. At the top, riders spiral into a dramatic 180 degree bank with sweeping views across Six Flags Great Adventure before plunging back toward the ground as the spinning train twists and rotates through the remainder of the 3,163 foot layout.
Adding to the unpredictability, the train may crest the summit facing forward, backward, sideways, or even upside down depending on how the vehicles have rotated throughout the ride.
According to the attraction’s story, Bakunawa is a mythical sea serpent said to rise from the ocean in an attempt to devour the moon. Guests will follow the creature’s skyward ascent before spiraling back toward the sea in one of the most ambitious themed coaster experiences ever created by Six Flags.
The attraction will set six world records when it opens:
1. World’s Fastest Spinning Coaster
2. World’s Tallest Spinning Coaster
3. World’s Fastest Inversion
4. World’s Longest Stall Inversion
5. World’s First Floorless Spinning Coaster
6. World’s First Upside Down Launch
