Unusual Construction on Cedar Point’s Valravn?
We’re officially in the hibernation part of the season and Cedar Point is hard at work with their 18th roller coaster, Valravn; as we’ve noted previously, the weather has certainly been in their favor. It’s a good thing for the Roller Coaster Capital of the World as their opening day is just under 3 months away on May 7th. The impending tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in the world has mad stats, claiming 10 world records for the scream machine and helping parent company Cedar Fair to stay on top of the latest coaster trend. During the construction process, questions from fans were being asked about the order in which Valravn was being put together. In the latest installment of Cedar Point’s video log, “Valravn Minute”, the nature in which the coaster creature is built is explained. See for yourself below:
Amazing! See? Putting together roller coasters is nothing different than building Legos…..except the pieces are all thousands of pounds heavy. With the use of the cranes to put the pieces together “out of order”, it appears the weather cooperating came at the right season to keep things on track (get it!) for the construction schedule. Despite when in the timeline that the lift hill was installed, many fans celebrated it as an important milestone with the coaster first starting to take shape. Cedar Point’s Director of Communications Tony Clark showed a photo on his Twitter feed on February 8th from the webcam with Valravn in all of it’s splendor:
It rained then it snowed. Crews are #BuildingValravn. I can’t wait to ride. #haiku #CedarPoint #Valravn #poetry -Tony Clark on Twitter February 8th
Does seeing the coaster take shape make you want to ride the dive? Some fans are skeptical of how thrilling a dive coaster can be but Valravn is proving to be a world class attraction that garners high interest and creating a need to take a spin on the new dirty bird. The Point’s annual “Winter Chill-Out” event on February 20th will allow fans to see their new favorite ride up-close when the behind the scenes tour is granted. Any photos or video of the tour that we can obtain will certainly be passed along through our usual social and website streams. For that and any other updates, keep it locked to Coaster Nation!
