Busch Gardens Tampa Demolishing Tanganyika Tidal Wave
With all the buzz about the purported 2019 addition to Busch Gardens Tampa, it seems that the construction would either occur on the old Gwazi site, or the site of the Tanganyika Tidal Wave ride. Today we got our answer.
Permit BDE-18-0439213 was filed today with the City of Tampa for the “Demolition of Tidal Wave water attraction, to include removal of ride itself, supports, footers, etc…“. Also it noted that all the buildings and trees onsite would not be removed from the construction site. The demolition is supposed to conclude with the expiration of the permit on October 22nd, 2018.
Tanganyika Tidal Wave was the parks shoot the chutes attraction. Originally opened as the African Queen Boat ride, Busch’s answer to the Jungle Cruise at Disney. It was modified in 1989, when a 55 foot drop was built for the ride. It operated until 2016, when it was closed in April. Below is a video of the ride on its final day of operation.
The ride sits on approximately 1.4 acres of land. Current rumors indicate that the future addition may be a Premier SkyRocket II installation. These rumors may be true considering that Tempesto at Busch Gardens Williamsburgh sits on a plot of land that has a total area of .65 acres. However, it is currently unknown what the future addition to the park will be.
