Six Flags Over Georgia Launches North America’s First Drop Tower VR Ride
Six Flag’s Over Georgia has announced an exciting new ride for it’s 50th anniversary season. In partnership with Samsung Electronics America, Inc., Six Flags announced a brand new virtual reality experience, Drop of Doom VR today.
Drop of Doom VR is the country’s first-ever permanent drop tower VR attraction, opening on March 11.
“We continue to explore new opportunities utilizing Samsung Gear VR technology and this drop tower concept is a great example of the ability to change content for different rides. We look forward to having our guests experience Drop of Doom as we kick off the beginning of a very special year, filled with new thrills, new reasons to visit and new memories to be made with family and friends,” said Six Flag Atlanta Properties Park President Dale Kaetzel.
Using a Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus, riders will become the pilots of futuristic gunship that has come under attack by giant, mutant spiders. The interactive virtual reality adventure features:
- a high speed virtual vertical 100 story ascent, while teetering off the edge of a virtual helicopter;
- a 360-degree rotating view above city skyscrapers that are under attack by mutant spiders;
- a high-intensity gun battle against a giant spider, spewing baby spiders that virtually crawl all over the rider’s body;
- a virtual 100-story drop straight down between towering skyscrapers; and
- a final showdown with a spider the size of a van, in full attack mode.
Although this will be an additional cost attraction, for a limited time only, guests can experience the Drop of Doom VR attraction free with paid park admission. Check it out below!
In addition to Drop of Doom VR, Six Flags Over Georgia has more exciting announcements for opening weekend. As a result of the Atlanta Falcons’ loss and Six Flags Over Georgia’s Super Bowl bet with Six Flags New England, the park will rename its 240-foot tall swing ride, The Patriots SkyScreamer and Park President Dale Kaetzel will ride the attraction, wearing a Patriots jersey. The park will also sell a limited amount of New England clam chowder to All Season Dining Plan guests.
Later in the spring, the high-action thrill ride JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis in 4D will make it’s debut. JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis is a full-sensory action ride, with guests joining forces with BATMAN™, SUPERMAN™, WONDER WOMAN™, THE FLASH™ and GREEN LANTERN™, using stun blasters to defeat Lex Luthor™, The JOKER™ and his henchmen. USA Today recently named the ride as one of the 12 most anticipated theme park rides for 2017. Construction on the state-of-the-art 4D attraction and the all-new Metropolis Park is nearly complete!
Six Flags Over Georgia is open on weekends from March 11 to May 14, and daily for Spring Break April 1-9. Summer daily operation begins on May 20.
