SeaWorld Orlando Welcomes A Whiskered Baby Walrus

For the first time in park history, a baby walrus has been born at SeaWorld Orlando!

A whiskered walrus baby was welcomed to SeaWorld Orlando on June 3, when a 14-year old female, Kaboodle, gave birth to her first calf just after midnight. Kaboodle and her baby immediately began to bond and the pair remain close at all times, even snuggling with each other as they sleep.

Kaboodle received pre-natal care and ultrasounds form the park’s veterinary teams. Because the baby will help the park in educating the public about the species, the team took extra care with Kaboodle’s pregnancy. So much so, that the staff is almost as excited to welcome the baby (no name released as of yet) as its mom is! You won’t find them cuddling with the baby in their sleep, but 14 year old Kaboodle sure has been!

The baby was born with a face full of whiskers, and is vocalizing with Kaboodle regularly. Soon, they will be available for the public to see, but for now, remain in the care of the husbandry team. This gives the mother and baby time to bond, and to stay under watch of the veterinarians to ensure their safety and health. Fans can check SeaWorld’s Facebook and Instagram for updates on mother and baby!
