Kennywood Kicks Off 70th Edition of Fall Fantasy

Summer is starting to wind down, which means it’s time for another year of Fall Fantasy Parades at Kennywood! This year marks 70 years of Fall Fantasy Parades, one of the park’s oldest and grandest. More than 150 high school and college marching bands from southwestern Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio will fill Kennywood’s midways with live music during nightly parades.

Fall Fantasy began at Kennywood in 1950 as an effort to boost attendance in August, generally the slowest period of the season. Flash forward 70 years later with four to twelve bands performing per day, Fall Fantasy is one of the busiest events of the summer.

Fall Fantasy has become a wonderful tradition for Kennywood and our local communities,” says General Manager Jerome Gibas. “The parades serve as one last chance to soak up summer before the school year begins and see the region’s talented young people take center stage.”

Visitors to Kennywood during Fall Fantasy can expect to see lions, tigers, bears, and both Kenny and Parker, oh, my! This year’s theme is “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, based on L. Frank Baum’s classic tale. Floats designed in-house by Kennywood’s Art Department will depict Munchkin Country, the gates to the Emerald City, and more, mixed in with each night’s performing bands.

Kennywood’s Fall Fantasy Parades begin at 7 p.m. nightly from Saturday, August 3 through Tuesday, August 20. The end of the parades on August 20 also marks the end of Kennywood’s 2019 daily operating schedule. Beginning August 21, the park is only open weekends plus Labor Day until the Summer Season’s conclusion on Sunday, September 15.
