Kings Island Debuts New Dark Ride Ahead of 55th Season With Full Summer Events Lineup
The curtain is rising on a milestone season at Kings Island as the park prepares to open its 55th year on April 18. With fan-favorite traditions returning and an all-new attraction ready to debut, the 2026 season promises a blend of nostalgia and fresh experiences for guests.

From the roar of The Beast emerging from its winter slumber to the return of the park’s iconic blue ice cream, the familiar sights and flavors of summer are back. But the headline addition this year is a long-awaited revival of a cult classic.
Phantom Theater Returns with a New Nightmare
Debuting opening day, Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare brings a modern twist to one of the park’s most beloved attractions, originally operating from 1992 to 2002.

Guests enter the haunted theater on a stormy night, where a lightning strike unleashes mischievous “ghost notes” from Maestro’s pipe organ. Riders join head usher No Legs Larry’s crew, boarding enchanted opera boxes equipped with interactive flashlights to capture the runaway spirits.

The experience unfolds through detailed scenes including backstage corridors, dressing rooms, haunted hallways, and even a fiery boiler room.

Familiar characters like Houdelini, The Great Garbonzo, Hilda Bovine, and Lionel Burymore return, joined by new additions such as Arpeggio, Maestro’s feline companion.

Enhanced with multi-sensory effects like wind and immersive sound, hidden Easter eggs, and a full musical finale, the attraction blends storytelling with interactive gameplay.

Here’s a spoiler free sneak peek featuring a few of the new animatronics for the ride.
Season Passholders will get early access during a preview event on Friday, April 17, followed by the public grand opening on Saturday, April 18.
A Sweet Treat Joins The Show

The Phantom Theater experience isn’t limited to the ride itself this season. Guests can also indulge in a themed culinary creation with the debut of the Phantom Theater Popcorn Tart, available at the Sweet Spot on International Street.
Festivals, Fireworks, and Live Entertainment
Kings Island’s event calendar is packed throughout the summer, beginning with the return of the park’s Food & Wine Festival. Running weekends from May 29 through June 21, the event pairs international cuisine with wines and live performances from local Cincinnati bands in Tower Gardens.

Inside the Kings Island Theater, illusionist Brad Ross will headline a high-energy show filled with grand illusions, comedy, and interactive magic during the same period.

Summer celebrations continue with Star-Spangled Night on July 4, featuring a large-scale fireworks display set to patriotic music, followed by the return of Grand Carnivale from July 18 through August 2. The fan-favorite festival delivers nightly parades, global cuisine, live entertainment, and a multi-sensory finale with fireworks, lasers, lights, and drones.
Classic Attractions and New Touches
Beyond new attractions and events, 2026 also celebrates park history. The Grand Carousel marks its 100th anniversary, having been built in 1926 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company before moving to Kings Island in 1972. Featuring 48 hand-carved horses and its original Wurlitzer organ, it remains a centerpiece for generations of visitors.
At the front gate, guests will find a refreshed KI Essentials retail location with a modern layout and updated merchandise offerings including new merchandise featuring Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare.

Over at Soak City, water attractions RiverRacers and Splash River Junction return for the season beginning May 23, offering options for both thrill seekers and younger guests looking to cool off.

With more than 65 rides, a highly anticipated dark ride revival, and a full slate of seasonal events, Kings Island is leaning into both its legacy and its future as it opens the gates on another summer.
