Get Ready For Kings Island’s #KIProject2017!
TIMBER!!! That might be the sound that Kings Island and Cedar Fair officials might be saying soon if all the hints they are dropping turn out to be true. Kings Island is holding a “Major Announcement” in the park tonight at 10:00 PM EST. While guests attending the park today are invited to attend the announcement by the White Water Canyon entrance, the event will be live streamed on our facebook page as well. The pride of Mason, Ohio in Warren County has some clues set-up in the Rivertown section of the park around the K.I. & Miami Valley Railroad station and the wooded area near it. News outlets started reporting on June 29th of receiving the above pictured axe with a tag that gives clues. The park has been posting some intriguing photos and captions with the hashtag “#KIProject2017”. The official word from the park has only been been confirmation of a new attraction coming in 2017.
The above photo of the coaster blueprint is part of what media outlets were reporting as of last month. Its a significant clue to drop for such a big project to be unleashed and some coaster enthusiasts feel this could be a peek into what Kings Island is up to. The picture you see below it of the wooded area is in Rivertown and is what coaster buffs have speculated is being made way for a wooden coaster. K.I. guests will most certainly recall the rise and fall of Son of Beast, the short-lived wooden coaster that Kings Island opened in 2000 but closed in 2009; it was a record-breaking coaster including being the only wooden roller coaster in the world to have an inversion. After that ride was dismantled, Banshee took it’s place after opening in 2014. With the new attraction in question, the location of the ride is going in the same section of the park where Diamondback is located. When that attraction opened in 2009, that turned the heads of many coaster enthusiasts and helped re-ignite a new coaster frenzy for the park. If the details dropped and speculated are true about #KIProject2017, it’ll garner the same excitement.
If the new attraction is indeed a wooden coaster, it doesn’t appear that it’ll take away from the long-standing popularity of The Beast. The Granddaddy of Them All in the wooden coaster genre still gives a thrill to coaster crazies and is what a lot of guests enjoy most about Kings Island. However, for the last couple of seasons, there has been massive speculation on Vortex and it’s future. The steel coaster has been on service since 1987 and with 30 seasons of excitement under it’s coaster belt, many have wondered if that coaster would of been torn down and be the location of a new attraction. Nonetheless, we’ve arrived the new era of excitement for Kings Island with the new plans that they’ve hatched for the coming year. Watch the clip below as Don Helbig from Kings Island talks with us about the latest & greatest coming to K.I.!
Don tweeted out a picture of the below cat and asked tweeters if they thought this would make a good house pet! Could this be a hint from Don on what to expect for #KIProject2017?!?! If so, there is a coaster manufacturer that makes coasters called the “Splinter” and they use timberliner trains. It all fits in with the woods theme and what is happening in Rivertown with newer attractions. You can imagine that the theming will be quite nice with the cat as well. That’s just our speculation on what is cooking in the woods of Kings Island but it would be very cool if this comes true!
What are your thoughts and speculation on what’s to come to Kings Island? What would you like to see there that The Island doesn’t have already? There will be lots of excitement and build up for the big announcement tonight! We will be streaming the announcement LIVE from our Facebook page at Facebook.com/coasternation starting at 10 PM EST!
