First Distribution Of Checks From Dollywood’s My People Fund

The first of six distribution of checks from the My People Fund will be distributed this week. The fund was established by Dolly Parton and the Dollywood Foundation to benefit the families who lost their primary residences in the wildfire that swept through the Great Smoky Mountains. Families will receive $1000 per month for 6 months.

The distribution dates are:

  • Thursday, Dec. 15- Last name A-F
  • Friday, Dec. 16- Last name G-L
  • Monday, Dec. 19- Last name M-R
  • Tuesday, Dec. 20- Last name S-Z

Distribution runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day at the CARE MORE Assistance Center inside the LeConte Event Center. The Dollywood Foundation encourages only the head of household to report on the day that corresponds with their lost name to help expedite the process. More than 900 people have already applied for funds and that number is expected to rise.

The Dollywood Foundation is also emphasizing that funds will not run out! On Tuesday, a telethon, “Smoky Mountains Rise” was held to raise money for the My People fund. Countless celebrities donated to the fund before the show and countless more donated their time ad energy to perform and answer the phones throughout the telethon. Millions of people tuned in to watch the show and their generous contributions raised nearly $9 million! This number is expected to climb though as mail donations are counted.
