Lake Compounce Opening New Phobia Phear Roller Coaster

Lake Compounce (the United States’ oldest theme park) has officially announced that the park will make it’s largest investment to date in a new 150-foot-tall roller coaster named Phobia Phear.

For a few weeks the park did a great job running teasers via social media creating some excitement. They teased the new attraction on social media, using the hashtag, #whatsintheboxlc. Below is one of their teaser photos.

Phobia Phear Coaster will be Lake Compounce’s first new roller coaster since 2000, when the wooden, chain-lifted “Boulder Dash” debuted. The ride will be considered “triple launch” because riders will experience three separate accelerations generated by linear synchronous motors that use electromagnets to power the trains at speeds over 65 mph through a 150′ high slow barrel roll,  take a supranatural 180 degree vertical twist, and ascending and descending hills.

Phobia is a Premier Rides “Sky Rocket 2″ model, similar to Tempesto at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Superman Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Phobia Phear will have two cars of six people as opposed to Tempesto’s 3 car train setup.

Lake Compounce General Manager, Jerry Brick stated:

“Adding Phobia to Lake Compounce will launch us to a new level in the amusement park arena by adding another ride that will be enjoyed by our thrill seeking guests. Over the past 10 years we have focused on attractions that appeal to the younger end of our family audience and we felt it was time to introduce a new high thrill factor. Phobia will be the largest financial investment we have made to the park in our history and we couldn’t be more excited.”

The new coaster is set to open for the 2016 season but track is scheduled to arrive onsite next week. Construction is set to start in August. Lake Compounce is selling a limited number of 2016 season passes for a limited time called “Phobia Season Passes”.
