Zamperla Creating Big Wavez With Never Before Seen Ride
A recent trend in amusement ride manufacturing is to combine different types of rides into new hybrid rides that feature the best aspects of each. Parks and manufacturers have recently been working together to create interactive dark rides / coasters designed for family entertainment.
Zamperla, a leading ride design and manufacturing company based out of Italy, have created one of the most unique rides ever — combining a drop tower, water ride, and interactive ride.

The new ride, named The Big Wavez, is a unique take on a classic water ride and a drop tower creating the adrenaline of bounces and a huge splash into water enhanced with an interactive video game.
Guests board the ride at ground level before the gondola is lifted to the top of the tower. There, riders play an interactive game taking full control of their destiny depending on their interactions and game dynamics thanks to Z+ cameras and sensors. Upon exiting the game, the gondola plummets 48 feet down to ground level. Shortly before reaching ground level, the metal at the bottom of the gondola pushes into the water tank generating a an extremely large wave splash slowing the gondola down. The ride experience is unpredictable and changes every time!

The ride stands 53 feet tall and features a 15 ton gondola that can hold 20 passengers. At the bottom of the gondola is a large uniquely shaped metal weight, which consists of most of the weight for the gondola. Underneath the gondola is a giant water tank. Below is a rendering showing how the ride operates.
Zamperla has already created a real concept of the new attraction that they are currently testing. Watch one of the first test runs with real riders below!
“We strive to create the most unique experiences and the Big WaveZ is all about the show, exciting to ride as to watch, it combines Big thrill in a small footprint and huge splash with Big spectacle,” says the company. “Zamperla aims to conduct people through memorable journeys, taking storytelling and attraction design to the next level, putting riders at the heart of the action.”
Whichever park decides to add this unique attraction will most certainly have a crowd pleaser, and one of the most unique drop towers on the planet.
