New Fourth Dimension Roller Coaster Coming To Kings Dominion

After Kings Dominion removed Volcano and the Crypt, guests were left speculating about the plans for that corner of the park. It seems we have a glimpse at what the near future holds.

At the kick-off of Kings Dominion’s all new Taste Of The Season event, guests noticed new track and supports staged near the parks Dominator roller coaster. Photos from the coaster enthusiast group KDFans give us a closer look at green track along with brown bamboo themed supports.

The question many people will still ask is, exactly what kind of ride is Kings Dominion getting? From the photos of the track, it appears they will be receiving a S&S 4D Free Spin coaster. This type of coaster features seats that rotate guests along an axis, providing a unique and thrilling experience. The seat style can be seen in this video below.

Unlike the 4D models seen at the Six Flags chain, this new ride appears to be slightly different. The track on-site differs from the track seen in the Six Flags and Adventureland installations as the transitions are shallower. This unique track indicates that the ride is a custom model and may be similar to the installation being constructed at World Fairytale Land.

From what can be viewed while riding the attractions at Kings Dominion, it appears that the new ride will be placed in the location of the former Crypt ride. It is unknown if there will be any alterations to the area in order to fit the ride.

It is also unknown when the new coaster will open, but since the track and supports are already on site, it can be assumed that this ride was originally destined to open for the 2021 season. With the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, and the 2020 season cancelled, Kings Dominion is already set to open their latest expansion to Soak City — Coconut Shores in 2021.

This new waterpark expansion could push the new coaster back to a 2022 opening.

Although this is expected to be replacing the Crypt ride, we still foresee another larger coaster being constructed in the former Volcano location.
