$27 Million Kings Island Camp Cedar Resort Opening Spring 2021
Kings Island has started construction on a new multi-million dollar outdoor resort, called Camp Cedar that is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2021.

The park is calling Kings Island Camp Cedar a year-round “luxury outdoor resort,” offering a modern-day escape to those looking for outdoor adventure — opening with 73 beautiful cottages with 100 more planned, and 164 full service RV sites for those traveling with their own accommodations. There also will be recreational and adult-exclusive heated pools, ponds, walking trail, dining options, bath houses, a laundry facility, firepits, grills, picnic tables, and even a off-leash dog park.

The $27 million development is under construction on more than 50 acres of land less than a mile from Kings Island’s front gates, near the Kings Mills McDonalds. As you can see in the video below, construction is well underway.
“We are excited to offer our guests a unique lodging experience and a contemporary outdoor retreat so close to Kings Island,” said Mike Koontz, Vice President and General manager of Kings Island. “The addition of Kings Island Camp Cedar luxury outdoor resort will make a visit to our park even more memorable.”
The Kings Island Camp Cedar Experience:
Kings Island Camp Cedar is a hybrid resort and camping destination that will offer those visiting Kings Island a number of exclusive resort perks such as Stay and Play packages.
While at the resort, guests will be able to enjoy state-of-the-art experiences including:
- The Grand Lodge (Hornbeam Lodge) will include a signature indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar, shopping, exercise facility and expansive fireplace.
- An outdoor cantina will offer a casual outdoor dining and bar experience offering American, Mexican and Italian fare in a grab-and-go food truck-inspired experience.
- Outdoor pools will include a family activity pool with water play features and a separate heated adult-exclusive pool. Both will offer poolside service and cabana facilities.
- Peanuts character appearances such as Character Breakfasts, Smores with Snoopy and more.
Renderings of the various cottages are very sleek resembling tiny houses for a modern-day glamping experience. Each cottage will feature a private bedroom with luxe linens, lounge area, kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning and heating units, patios with picnic tables, and housekeeping service upon request.

The RV sites will be available with back-in and pull-through configurations and come with full hookup capability, including water, sewer, electric and complimentary WIFI, and level with a concrete or blacktop pads. All RV sites include a picnic table and grill, and most include a firepit.

Kings Island Camp Cedar is being built and owned by Small Brothers, LLC and Terra Firma Associates. Through a unique partnership and licensing agreement, The resort will be managed by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, owner of the Kings Island amusement park.
“It’s natural for us to partner with Cedar Fair, the owners of Kings Island,” said Jon Small, Chairman and CEO of Small Brothers. “As a top destination in the area, their ability to entertain and provide a place to create lasting memories is exactly the type of experience we want our visitors to have at Kings Island Camp Cedar.”

When we spoke with Kings Island spokesman Chad Showalter about the project, he noted that “there will be transportation available between the campground and the park” for guests visiting Kings Island.
With all the current markers in place at the front of the park, we believe guests might see a re-imagined drop off location in the Spring to accommodate the transportation services.
The new outdoor resort will start accepting reservations in January, but a 2021 opening date for the Kings Island amusement park has not yet been announced.
Kings Island previously operated a campground at the park, which was developed into a Great Wolf Lodge in 2006.
