WinterFest Returns to Kings Island!
WinterFest will finally make a return to Kings Island after a 12 year absence! The announcement was made today at a press conference that took place inside the park’s Festhaus that Winterfest will return to Kings Island in 2017.
The focal point of WinterFest will be the World’s Largest Christmas Tree display on the park’s iconic 314-foot tall Eiffel Tower. It will be decorated with thousands of beautiful lights all dancing along to a with a state-of-the-art synchronized light show!
Below the Eiffel Tower, International Street will be transformed into a colorful and quaint winter village, featuring the fun of holidays past such as ice skating on the fountain, a reindeer petting area, stage shows, a Snoopy ice show on the fountain, midway entertainment, Christmas carolers, Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, and even homemade crafts. We can’t wait to go ice skating inside the iconic Kings Island fountain!
“The No. 1 question I’m asked as general manager of the park is, ‘When are you going to bring Winterfest back?’ ” said Greg Scheid, vice president and general manager of Kings Island. “Winterfest is all about family memories and family fun.The lighting around this park will be like nothing you’ve seen before.Planning for the 2017 Winterfest began about six months ago. Scheid noted it is a project requires about two years of work.”
Tasty foods, colorful gifts, live stage shows, fun rides, and of course, Santa’s workshop will all be part of WinterFest’s warmth and excitement. Rides will include the Grand Carousel and a journey through the park’s Rivertown area on an authentic steam train.
Operating dates, hours and ticket prices for WinterFest were not released yet, although officials did hint at opening the day after Thanksgiving and operating through the end of December. 2017 Gold and Platinum season passholders will be able to attend for free as Winterfest will be included!
Also new in 2017, Soak City Water Park will see the addition of a smokehouse style restaurant as well as other new amenities and improvements. Guests will enjoy the smells and tastes of new food items such as:
- Smoked pulled pork
- Smoked or grilled wings
- Hand-breaded chicken tenders and shrimp
- Hand-breaded shrimp
- and more!
This actually sounds very similar to the new Harbor House restaurant Cedar Fair added this summer to the Carolina Harbor waterpark at Carowinds. If it’s the same, Kings Island fans are in for some amazing food!
The water park will offer additional shade structures, changing rooms, cooling mister fans, and expanded deck space doubling the number of chaise lounge chairs.
This is Kings Island’s second big announcement this summer. Last month it unveiled a new wooden roller coaster, also set to open in 2017, called Mystic Timbers. Don’t want to wait to take a ride? Coaster lovers can take a virtual ride right now!
