Update added 12/22/2015 in red at bottom
Cedar Point has been chock full of Valravn photos, videos and updates since they’ve started full-time construction during the offseason. Once the Halloweekends party let out at the beginning of November, the weather has been cooperating for the Roller Coaster Capital of the World and it’s allowed them to crank out significant progress on their 18th coaster. When we visited The Point in September to preview Valravn, the excitement about the coaster was palpable among the Cedar Fair associates and park enthusiasts. Now, the big reveal was more like an obvious reveal because of the leaks that came out about the ride in the months leading up to the official announcement. Nonetheless, it’s a nice change and upgrade from the Good Times Theater and Turnpike Cars that once held court at the site. Let’s Dive into the sights & sounds of Cedar Point building yet another record breaking scream machine on their Lake Erie turf for the whole world to enjoy!
With all of these new additions to the updates Cedar Point’s provided, via the photos tweeted out from their Twitter account and that of Director of Communications Tony Clark, the progress of the lift hill and other rapid change has been flowing constantly. When Valravn opens in May 2016, it will boast of 10 world records including Tallest Dive Coaster at 223 feet, Fastest Dive Coaster at 75 MPH, Longest Dive Coaster at 3,415 Feet and Longest Drop on a Dive Coaster at 214 Feet. There are some coaster fans who thought Cedar Point was priming to get either a new wooden roller coaster, or a mean streak revamp. However, once the patent offices had availability for other parks beside Busch Gardens to build a Dive Coaster, Cedar Fair jumped on it for their flagship park to get the next one. To keep the anticipation going, Cedar Point has started to put entries into a blog dedicated to the coaster on the Valravn section of their website. Another element that was introduced was Valravn Minute, which is similar to the Point Cast videos that the park releases to provide updates on new attractions and rides. Take a look at Valravn’s progress via the video below!
The weather really has been in Valravn’s favor! It’s certainly been an unseasonal Autumn in Ohio and some Ohioans fear there may be no snow for Christmas! But look on the bright side Cedar Point’ers, at least the construction progress of Cedar Point’s latest dirty bird is going off without a hitch! The above photos show Tony Clark’s latest adventures with Valravn construction happening at the park. After it’s completed, Valravn will be the 72nd ride at Cedar Point, the 5th coaster at the park that’s over 200 feet tall and will be the Most Steel Roller Coaster Track at One Amusement Park with 52,125 feet. These feats will certainly keep the ever changing Midway in high demand for enthusiasts to visit when they first arrive to the park. A way for guest to cure their offseason coaster blues is by checking out Cedar Point’s webcams on their website. It’s a very cool way to keep tabs on the progress with a Valravn’s eye view!
There will be a Valravn Launch Party on May 5th and will be done like last year’s first rider auction where a ticket can be purchased for the event and the proceeds benefit The LeBron James Family Foundation. The other interesting news is the park opening a weekend early on May 7th & May 8th for the “Valravn World Premiere Weekend” and the entire park will be open. The park will then be closed Monday, May 9 through Thursday, May 12. It will re-open for the “official” Opening Day on Friday, May 13th.
Of course, when at the park, fans might want to keep their eye out for any filming that could be done behind the scenes from folks like The Travel Channel. They usually come and film while new rides are being built and it always provides excitement on television after the season has gotten underway.

Topped! Today marks history as Cedar Point topped off Valravn at 223ft! The top section of the track was precisely layed into place and bolted down. The bolts to all the track sections won’t get totally tightened down until every piece is in place. This gives the contractors wiggle room when inserting the next piece of track, Once all the track is inserted, the crews will make numerous rounds tightening the bolts to specific torque settings. Finally the bolts are marked with little white or colored lines so that maintenance crews can easily tell if any of the bolts move in the future.
It’s hard to see in the dark, but tonight, the 1st curve after the lift hill was also dropped into place. Once all the higher sections are in place, progress will start moving along a lot faster.
