Video: Twisted Cyclone First Rides At Six Flags Over Georgia
Six Flags Over Georgia is known for having thrilling roller coasters. After the closure of the Georgia Cyclone in 2017, rumors quickly began to swirl that the park was re-imagining the ride into a new thrill machine. Fast forward to 2018, and we now have a twisted masterpiece of wood and steel. Today, members of the press and select vip guests took their first rides on Twisted Cyclone—the Southeast’s Tallest, Fastest, and Longest hybrid roller coaster.
Twisted Cyclone is a wood and steel hybrid coaster, a first-of-its-kind for the park which is made possible through technology developed by Six Flags along with Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) out of Idaho. Re-designing the Georgia Cyclone was the result of the collaboration of RMC and Six Flags. The new ride is a re-imagining of the famed Coney Island Cyclone. Twisted Cyclone is now able to offer new thrills that were unheard of when the original Georgia Cyclone was built in 1990.
The re-imagined coaster is taller, faster, and most importantly SMOOTHER than ever before!
Twisted Cyclone still uses many of the wood supports that have been in place for years, but now it has steel support beams also mixed in. The track has been converted to a steel I-box track for an ultra smooth ride offering inversions that were once not possible on a wooden coaster. The new coaster structure reaches 100 feet and drops you down at a 75 degree angle, reaching speeds of 50 mph. While that may not seem fast when comparing to other coasters, trust us.. it’s fast for the sharp quick turns on this ride!
There’s not a bad seat on the entire train. The ride is super smooth and the airtime moments are insane, take a ride with us!
The stats of this ride are just as surreal as the coaster itself. Six Flags shattered six records with the new thrill ride!
