Tron Coaster Coming To Disney’s Magic Kingdom And More!
Today, Disney confirmed that Tron is coming to Magic Kingdom! Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts revealed the big news today at the D23 Expo and says that Tron will be ready for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
Tron opened at Shanghai Disneyland in 2016 to rave reviews! The 60mph launched coaster was an instant fan favorite at the park ever since its inception. In fact, it wasn’t long after it opened that fans began speculating that the attraction would soon be copied to the US parks.
The new Tron ride at Walt Disney World Florida will be located in an entirely new area next to Space Mountain. According to the concept art, The Walt Disney World Railroad and Tomorrowland Speedway (which may get re-themed) should continue to operate. Watch the announcement below along with an overview of Tron at the Shanghai Disneyland.
Also announced at D23 was a new theater for world-class entertainment. the new theater is inspired by Kansas City’s 1920’s Willis Wood Theater, where Walt once lived after leaving Marceline. The new theater will be constructed somewhere on Main Street USA. No word on an opening date yet, or the exact location, but we’re guessing it’ll go in the employee parking lot behind Main Street and Tommorowland. Hopefully this will permanently open the path to help with congestion on Main Street USA.
“Across Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we’ve been upping the game in Entertainment with shows like Frozen Live at the Hyperion,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. “It’s been a huge hit at the Disneyland Resort, and I’m sure many of you have seen it. This new theater at Walt Disney World continues that streak by bringing a new venue for world-class entertainment to the world’s biggest park.”
