Tokyo Disney Announces Five New Attractions
Tokyo Disney Resort and Oriental Land Co. has announced several new additions for 2020 at both Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea!
Soarin’ – DisneySea
First up is the Tokyo DisneySea side of the resort. Soon visitors can look forward to experiencing their own version of the wildly popular Soarin’ attraction which can currently be found at Epcot and Disney’s California Adventure.
Soarin’ will be located in the park’s Mediterranean Harbor area near the main entrance and will feature a ” journey soaring over famous landscapes of the world”. As with the rest of the attractions at DisneySea we can expect to find an attraction rich with detail and a unique experience that you can only find in Japan.
Also announced was a new 1500 seat theater for Tokyo Disneyland set to be placed into Fantasyland. Although no name was released yet the press release did offer this little bit on what kind of entertain to expect.

Signature Disney entertainment unique to Tokyo Disneyland and featuring the Disney Friends will be presented in this storybook theater environment.
New Minnie Mouse Meet & Greet – Toontown
Toontown which is right next door to Fantasyland will soon welcome Minnie Mouse to a brand new meet and greet location.
Minnie Mouse, as a fashion designer, will greet Guests in her studio dressed in fashionable costume. After walking through Minnie’s design studio and her work area with interactive elements, Guests can meet Minnie in person, take pictures with her, and generally spend a memorable time together. – From the press release
Big Hero 6 Attraction
Also coming in 2020 if you are a fan of Baymax then you will be excited to learn that your favorite personal healthcare companion will soon have his own ride coming into Tomorrowland.
Guests will join the star of Big Hero 6 as you are whipped around to music and spun around and around. You will also find a new outer space themed shop next door selling many flavors of popcorn.
Beauty and the Beast Land
The biggest news coming out includes a whole new Beauty and The Beast themed area which will allow visitors to feel like they have just stepped into the film itself.
Although not much info was released on shops in the new area we expect that it may we may see LeFou’s Brew make its way to Japan via their own Gaston’s Tavern
Beauty and the Beast Darkride
Included in the announcement of the new Beauty and the Beast land is the addition of a brand new trackless technology darkride themed to the story of the Beauty and the Beast.
Guests board enchanted serving dishes that dance in rhythm to the film’s well-known music and follow Belle on a romantic musical adventure inside the enchanted Castle where she dances her way into the heart of the Beast, just in time to break the fateful spell. Guests will feel like they have entered right into the film.
Beauty and the Beast would be the 2nd trackless darkride for Tokyo Disneyland. Pooh’s Hunny Hunt also uses the technology and is still a huge hit even 16 years later.
Ride closures
With the additions coming in that means that several rides will have to be removed to make room for the new additions
The first attraction to close will be the Grand Circuit Raceway which opened with the park in 1983. Guests have until January 2017 to experience it.
StarJets is the second attraction that will permanently close. That will happen in the autumn-winter of 2017. StarJets also opened with the park in 1983.
Nothing was mentioned about the previously announced Scandinavia area for Tokyo DisneySea however we certainly hope that area is still in the plans and park officials didn’t just “Let it go”.
A Steampunk version of Soarin’ sounds pretty interesting to us. All in all this seems to be a more elaborate addition of Fantasyland opposed to Walt Disney World’s Fantasyland. Having a full size Beast castle sounds amazing! We can’t wait to go check it out!
