Tapu Tapu at Volcano Bay Redefines the Theme Park Experience
In anticipation of the upcoming opening of Volcano Bay on May 25, Universal just announced more features of Tapu Tapu. Guests at Volcano Bay will experience an entirely new level of freedom and fun as they enjoy the park with friends and family. There will be no more standing in lines to experience an attraction. No more carrying wallets, cash, or credit cards. No more carrying a locker key. The Tapu Tapu revolutionizes what we expect for a water parks, and marks the beginning of a new generation of water parks.
Volcano Bay guests will use their Tapu Tapu wearable (included with your admission) to virtually wait in line for rides while enjoying other areas of the park. This can include the lazy river, wave pool, or a bite to eat. Their wearable will simply alert them when it’s time to ride. Guests can also enjoy many Tapu Tapu Play experiences throughout the park: triggering special effects like controlling streams of water spurting from whales in the Tiki Reef, shooting water cannons at guests snaking down the lazy river, and illuminating hidden images in the volcano’s hidden caves.
The most recently announced details of Tapu Tapu are:
- TapTu Pay: guests will be able to make purchases using the Tapu Tapu wristband, eliminating the need for cash or credit cards.
- TapTu Snap/Photo Access: there will be multiple photo opportunitites throughout the water park, and the Tapu Tapu wearable will automatically be synched with photos so you’ll be able to view and purchase the photos at your convenience.
- Lockers: after renting a locker, guests can open them with their wearable anytime throughout the day.
Each guest is given a Tapu Tapu wearable upon entry to Volcano Bay and must be return it upon exit. Universal has stated that all information will be unlinked when the wearable is returned to ensure personal information is kept safe. They also stated that an alarm will sound at the exit if someone attempts to leave the park with the wearable.
The best way to prepare for Tapu Tapu is to create an account through the Universal Orlando app or through the Universal website. We will learn more about Tapu Tapu and have a larger article about it after May 25 (yes, we will be there opening day!). If you’re just as excited as we are and can’t wait to get an inside look at the park, check out some of the pictures from inside the park.
