Swim With Sharks At SeaWorld’s Discovery Cove
Shark Awareness Day is July 14 and in celebration, guests at Discovery Cove can now take part in exclusive new animal experiences at the park. While you may be familiar with the park’s dolphin interaction, now you can add sharks and stingrays to the list of hands-on encounters you can experience at the park.
Guests have always been able to view sharks in Discovery Cove, but this new experience takes it to a whole new level – swimming freely among sharks. During the experience, you’ll get an up-close look at five different species of shark: Pacific blacktip, reef whitetip, nurse shark, zebra shark and a spotted wobbegong. During the program, you’ll meet up up with the park’s shark team and head into the water. Through hands-on interaction, you’ll be able to learn about shark anatomy and the threats the animals face in the wild. The second part of the program gives you the opportunity to join the sharks in the deeper part of their habitat and embark on an exhilarating snorkel experience.
Through this program, Discovery Cove aims to dispel myths about sharks and give guests a deeper understanding of them. Sharks play an essential role in maintaining the balance of ocean ecosystems worldwide by monitoring fish populations, but shark finning and overfishing threaten many shark species and disrupt the natural balance. While this program does require an extra fee, SeaWorld is donating 5% of the proceeds to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation in support of shark conservation and research.
Sharks aren’t the only animal you can now get a hands-on experience with. In addition to the new shark experience, Discovery Cove has also launched a new Ray Feeding experience. During this experience, you have the chance to feed the stingrays during a private tour of the Grand Reef.
