SeaWorld San Diego Announces New Coaster For 2018
We’re only a few days into 2017, but SeaWorld San Diego is wasting no time on their promise to add more thrill attractions to their parks! The park has officially unveiled plans for their new 2018 attraction, called Electric Eel, Opening summer of 2018!
The ride will be a Premier Rides Sky Rocket II model-the second for the chain. The first, Tempesto, can be found at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Standing 150 feet at the highest point, riders will enter an intense heartline inversion. Electric Eel will not only be the park’s fastest and tallest ride, it will include a 60mph triple launch giving riders the park’s first upside down view of Mission Bay! It will be the park’s third roller coaster, amongst other rides and animal experiences!
During the ride, guests will be immersed into a storyline about electric eels. There will even be a electric eel habitat to go along with the ride theme that is set to arrive at the park this year. Electric eel will be phase II for the newest area of the park’s Ocean Explorer Experience. The area is meant to combine the family-oriented aspect SeaWorld has always focused on with a little bit of thrill-seeking. The area will have five new rides, two aquariums, and a new dining experience.
“Electric Eel will bring a whole new level of excitement to SeaWorld in 2018,” said SeaWorld San Diego’s Park President Marilyn Hannes. “This new, first-of-its-kind coaster at SeaWorld will give riders the rare opportunity to feel what it’s like to move like an eel as they twist and flip along nearly 900 feet of undulating track.”
Along with the eel habitat and Phase I of the Ocean Explorer Experience, a new orca encounter is set to replace the theatrical Shamu show. The show is being gradually phased out amongst the parks. The last chance to see the Once Ocean Killer whale show before the new Orca encounter is this Sunday!
