Rumor Mill: New Coney Island BBQ Eatery Coming To Kings Island?
Over the last few years, Kings Island has expanded both in terms of the number of attractions and the number of eateries at the park. Recent county documents have indicate that Kings Island might be expanding again for the 2018 season.
In late 2017, the structures that used to house both the Attitudes gift shop as well as Coney Potato Works were demolished. This caused large amount of speculation as it was unknown what would be calling that space home in 2018.
Construction of a new building was well underway by the end of Winterfest 2017. Here’s a photo we took on the last day of Winterfest. At the time, we were unsure of what the building would be used for.. but now, the haze is slowly beginning to clear up…
According to memos posted on the Warren County Property site, Kings Island has filed necessary documents to open a new eatery in 2018, currently labeled as “CONEY ISLAND BBQ”.
It is still unknown whether the eatery will serve food similar to either the BBQ Mac & Cheese Bar seen during Winterfest, or the Island Smokehouse in Soak City, but if it does pan out, a new BBQ eatery is very exciting! For comparison, here’s a couple photos of the Island Smokehouse which opened last year in Soak City waterpark at Kings Island.
Along with the new eatery, we are also still not ruling out a return of the Antique Cars. But, remember, documents do not always mean it will happen, so until it is officially announced by the park, take it with a grain of salt…
Update (3/27/18): Today Kings Island officially announced the addition of the Coney BarBQue restaurant to the Coney Mall section of Kings Island. Guests will be able to order a variety of their favorite barbecue offerings such as “smoked St. Louis-style ribs, pulledpork, rotisserie chicken and Queen City Sausage along with a fresh selection of side dishes”. The renderings released by the park displays the theming that pays homage to the early days of Kings Island.
Besides the announcement of the new eatery, Kings Island also had another major announcement regarding food offerings at the park. James Major, a two-time winner of the Food Network’s Chopped and contestant on Alton Brown’s Cutthroat Kitchen, has been announced as the park’s executive chef. Already certified as a Pro Chef II by the Culinary Institute of America, Major comes to Kings Island after serving as the Executive Chef at both Great American Ball Park and Funky’s Catering.
Kings Island will open for the 2018 season on Saturday, April 14th. For tickets and more information, visit the official Kings Island website here.
