Raw Video – Cable Snaps On Theme Park Slingshot Ride
Sure we all have wondered “what if” on that big roller coaster, or “what if” on that bungee cable… Well, that “what if” became a reality for some unlucky guests at an amusement park in France.
The video shows every theme park or carnival visitor’s nightmare. Everything was going smoothly until one of the bungee cords on the slingshot ride snapped sending the riders crashing into the ride’s supports.
The accident happened at Luna Park, in Cap d’Agde, France. A 24-year-old woman broke her leg and the other rider occupant walked away without any injuries. The couple was said to have been stuck in the air for approximately one hour before being rescued. Park officials said the accident was a “manufacture defect” in the elastic cable, according to multiple reports. The ride is now closed while an investigation takes place. This is the first incident of this kind at Luna Park.
The chance of a fatal injury at a theme park is one in 1.5 billion [Source: CPSC]. By comparison, the chance of fatal injury in a car crash is almost 15 in 10,000 [Source: U.S. Department of Transportation]. You’re about twice as likely to suffer a shark attack as you are to sustain an injury at a theme park requiring a hospital stay. With that said, we still say theme park rides are incredibly safe!
Although theme parks are very safe, accidents do happen. Earlier this year a girl lost her leg in a roller coaster accident while riding “The Smiler”. See the full story here.
