New Friday the 13th Video Game Featuring Horror Icon Jason Voorhees

After a 25-year absence, Friday the 13th is making a return to video games! Jason Voorhees’ new killing spree will be released on multiple platforms this October. Jason fans are finally getting the game they’ve been wanting since… well… forever.

A video game based on “Friday the 13th” is being developed as a multiplayer horror adventure that’s both cooperative and competitive. Mirroring the classic slasher films, some players will band together as survivors while a single player will play as Jason, hunting them down. Not many details have been released at this point but the new game will surely feature far more modern graphics than the NES days.

Creator of the original Friday the 13th film, Sean S. Cunningham said:

“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form. We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

Sean didn’t say who is developing the game, but he did say that it’s “an experienced video game studio”. There’s good reason to be skeptical since most licensed games are terrible, but we have our fingers crossed that the “experienced developer” brings us something worthwhile.

The first and last time we saw the hockey mask–wearing, machete-wielding psychopath in a Friday the 13th video game was on the original Nintendo (NES) system in 1989:
