Mystic Timbers Wooden Roller Coaster Debuts At Kings Island
Kings Island has raised the bar of ride innovation once again with their new Mystic Timbers roller coaster! One of the most highly anticipated new attractions in the amusement/theme park industry, the 109-foot-tall wooden roller coaster features 16 airtime moments through wooded terrain along 3,265 feet of track at speeds up to 53 mph with an intriguing mystery of What’s in the Shed?
Today, invited guests and select media was able to test ride the new coaster and see exactly what’s in the mysterious shed. Instead of showing a lights on video or photos inside the shed, we’ll just describe it as something over the top that you wouldn’t expect from a roller coaster at Kings Island and leave it at that..
The morning kicked off with an opening ceremony from Cedar Fair reps including Cedar Fair VP of Design Rob Decker, Kings Island VP & GM Mike Koontz, GCI’s Adam House, and King’s Island’s Director of Communications Don Helbig.
Although most thrill seekers just look at the specs of how tall or how fast, this thrill machine is about one thing and one thing only…. FUN! That’s just how to describe Mystic Timbers.
Mystic Timbers is more than just another wooden roller coaster. Built by Pennsylvania-based Great Coasters International (GCI), the entertainment starts as soon as guests walk up to the entrance. The entire ride including the queue line is nicely themed to an abandoned lumber company becoming overrun by a mysterious medusa-like overgrowth of vines as nature reclaimed its land.
The ride itself features a total of 16 airtime hills, a mid-course tunnel, and interacts with various parts of the Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad and White Water Canyon.
“Mystic Timbers is naturally exciting because of its setting in a densely wooded area,” Cedar Fair’s regional vice-president Greg Scheid said. “The natural rugged terrain and tunnel ensures a unique and memorable ride experience.”
All of these features combined makes Mystic Timbers one of the most thrilling and more importantly FUN amusement park attractions in America. “Everyone who enjoys the fun and thrills of riding a roller coaster will want to experience this attraction,” Scheid said.
With the addition of Mystic Timbers, Kings Island’s wooden roller coasters will combine to measure 18,804 feet of track, which will be the most at any amusement or theme park in the world. The new coaster opens to the general public Saturday, April 15th at 10:00am.
