Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari Announces Firecracker for 2017
Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari has always been known for their unique theming and awaed wining rides. With the release of a new video, they just took their uniqueness to a whole new level! Rather than just telling us their plans, they let us figure it ourselves by dropping a whole bunch of clues into a “Mannequin Challenge” video. The Mannequin Challenge is the latest internet craze where people freeze for the camera- just like a mannequin! Holiday World’s video definitely takes the cake. Check it out below (before we give you all the details ourselves!)
Let’s take a look at all the clues:
- “This Old Ride” Book
- An email memo. It lists, Voyage track work, New Holidog’s Treehouse, Firecracker restoration, Remember the Alamo, HallowSwings LEDs, Raven track work, Zinga paint job, throwing shade, New Watubee tower
- A map featuring Ohio and Indiana with a point near Cincinnati and the year 1972, a point near the Indiana/Ohio northern border with the year 2007, and a point near Holiday World with the date 2017.
- A white board featuring a vote on ride names. It lists Bison-tennial Spin, Election Cycle, Firecracker (with a star next to it), and Uncle Sam’s Spin.
- A board featuring three different possible firecracker logos
- A binder featuring a cover about restoring Calypso, a family attraction
- A Calypso car with George the Eagle sitting in it
- A display of blue paint swatches
- Holidog holding a 4th of July themed sign reading “Celebrate with us in 2017”
A blog post that was released with the video tells us that the park will be restoring a classic flat ride that will be named, Firecracker. The ride is one of the few Calypso rides left in operation and will be installed in the Holiday World’s 4th of July area, right across from Liberty Launch. Firecracker will feature 16 cars seating two passengers each. Think of it as a relative to the Scrambler which is a popular ride at many traveling fairs. No going upside down, just spinning around in circles, feeling the pull of gravity from the centrifugal force generated by the ride.
The ride first opened at LeSourdsville Park near Cincinnati in 1972. In 2007, it was moved to Fun Spot in northeast Indiana, which closed in 2008. (explaining the map clue from the video!).
Firecracker isn’t the only new thing to come to Holiday World this spring. Other announcements for 2017 include:
- A new wheelchair-accessible Holidog’s Treehouse, Holidog Express train ride, and Star Spangled Carousel.
- Shade structures over Kitty’s Tea Party, Comet’s Rockets, Jungle Racer, and Otorongo
- Track work on The Voyage and The Raven
- New six story tower at Watubee family water slide
- Restaurant improvements to Alamo and other outlets to improve service and allow for new menu options (and increase availability to free soft drinks!)
The park opens for its 2017 season on April 29th. What ride are you most excited for this season? Let us know via our social channels!
