Falcon’s Creative Group Developing New Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality Experiences

Falcon’s creative group is expanding into the world of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Already well known for their 4D dark ride and 360° 3D Dome Theater projects such as the Curse of DarKastle ride at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and the Heroes and Legends dome theater experience at Kennedy Space Center, Falcon’s award winning team has announced that they are developing VR and AR content.

“We always want to put the story first and put guests in the middle of the story … and VR and AR is the new frontier” said David Schaefer, Vice President of Falcon’s Creative Group.

So what is AR or VR? Watch and learn:

To help in their virtual and augment reality development Falcon’s recruited top visual effects talent that have worked on projects such as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Although Falcon’s Creative Group doesn’t have a lot of experience with VR and AR, they are confident that their many years of experience creating content will allow them to be successful. “Integrating into VR we already have many years of experience creating that content, it’s just essentially a new delivery system” Falcon’s creative group is especially excited about no longer being limited by the physical limitations of rides. On a normal ride everyone has the same experience. With virtual reality they are able to change the experience from ride to ride, train to train, or even seat to seat. Virtual reality presents unlimited narrative options for Falcon’s Creative Group to work with.

Falcon’s creative group is also interested in the potential uses of augmented reality and mixed reality. Augmented reality supplements real world views with digital elements. It does not cut off the viewer from the real world like virtual reality does. Mixed reality is a combination of virtual reality and augmented reality in that it utilizes a camera to introduce the real world into the virtual reality experience. Falcon’s Creative Group finds these options appealing to allow the viewer to experience a digital narrative without being fully separated from the world around them. No matter what format they choose to develop, Falcon’s Creative Group is sure to WOW future guests with their graphics and stories!

To get a better idea of what augmented looks like installed on a current ride, check out this video of our team riding the new Galactic Attack coaster at Six Flags Over Texas. (keep in mind this is not a Falcon project, just an example of AR)
