Documents Reveal Details For New Attraction At Busch Gardens Willaimsburg
A few weeks ago we reported that soil testing was being conducted at Busch Gardens Williamsburg for an anticipated new attraction. Due to the complex nature of the terrain, as well as the large area of land being sampled, it was logical to assume that the park was looking to add a signature attraction. Our questions were answered with documentation from the James City County Board of Supervisors Meeting.
The new attraction will be situated on a pad next to the service roads for both Griffon and Loch Ness Monster. However, the description of the project provides more clues as to the nature of this attraction. In the resoultion of the submission to the board, the project is defined as:
“Mr. Anthony Loubier of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., has applied on behalf of SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, LLC for a Height Limitation Waiver to allow for the installation of an attraction that is approximately 115 feet above finished grade at its highest point (the “Attraction”);”
“Commencement of Construction: Permits for the construction of foundations and/or footings for the Attraction shall be obtained within 36 months from the date of
approval of this Height Limitation Waiver or this Height Limitation Waiver shall be void.”
Breaking this down, the ride at it’s utmost peak will place riders 115 feet above the given terrain, as well as consist of multiple footings. With the small footprint, it is clear that some sort of swing ride is going to be added to the park, as the park would not be adding a drop tower, since they already have once at twice the height of the new project. Going further, the only swing rides that reach 115 feet are the S&S Screaming Swing and the Mondial Revolution. Given that a Mondial Revolution was already installed at a local park, it is likely that the new project will be the S&S Screaming Swing.
Although this is just our estimated guess, we feel pretty confident about the new attraction being the S&S Screamin Swing – given what is known about the project. There’s still plenty of time for the park to change their plans etc, but either way, Busch Gardens will definitely be adding a very thrilling ride next season!
