Did Cedar Point Leak Valravn, The New Roller Coaster?
Doesn’t Snoopy look all fun & innocent when you see him at Cedar Point? BUT, is he telling the truth at Cedar Point?!!?!! With the newest curve ball, cardboard glasses were received in the mail this week for the Big Announcement that’s coming on August 18th at 9 PM EST in Celebration Plaza. There was also a link to download a virtual reality app… and once the app was opened, there were obvious reveals about what could be announced on August 18th.
The “reveal” in question is shown below and industry observers say it’s a Bolliger & Mabillard dive coaster, which has three inversions and has the Valravn name we all know & love. Coaster Freaks are very familiar with the name of the scream machine manufacturer as the company also built the GateKeeper, which opened in 2013 and did Rougarou, which opened this past Spring. We told you just this week about Valravn and the footage and t-shirt we found which all indicates the dive coaster-ing that Cedar Point could be up to. Couple those items with the virtual reality app with the cardboard glasses media members got in the mail and you’ve got a nice speculation party!
In the words of the Timex Club in the 80’s, “Look at all these rumors surroundin’ me everyday“!! So far, we’ve seen patents for a Valravn, heard rumors of a dive coaster, we’ve seen footage of what that dive coaster could look like and we’ve now seen images of what the coaster’s layout and logo could look like. But you gotta remember, Cedar Fair loves to play “gotcha!” with the media and it’s loyal coaster freaks leading up to a big announcement. At Kings Island the word and images got out about “The Bat Flys Again!“… it gave the impression that it was the new ride being revealed at the park. However, once we got to announcement time, we found out the new ride was Banshee and The Bat was coming back via the Flight Deck coaster being made over to resemble and honor the original coaster that was open in the 1980’s.
There’s also the Whyte Lightning incident of 2009! That’s when Cedar Point sent out promotional bottles that had the logo on it. but there was one small detail that folks came to find out: that wasn’t the ride.
It wound-up being Shoot The Rapids, which is a well-received water ride and is the same name as a previous popular water attraction the park had.
No doubt, these are all in fun tricks of publicity and hype building that Cedar Fair does to grab our attention. It would take away from the fun of the event if the actual ride that’s being revealed were to be leaked before the announcement. With the modern day of technology, it’s a bit of a wonder that it hasn’t happened already!
About these latest developments as evidenced above, it appears a true leak didn’t happened. It is some good buzz and build-up before August 18th and quite a good use of technology too! The cardboard glasses and the virtual reality app are a nice touch but it appears to be a way to throw us off.
The more it’s looked at it and thought about, it seems a pirate themed dark ride could be the actual reveal; and why not? It could be the biggest, baddest dark ride on the planet that’s also record breaking for thrill freaks. The dark ride could even top Knott’s Berry Farms’ Voyage to the Iron Reef, which opened this past spring.
So, until we know what’s exactly going on at Cedar Point on August 18th at 9 PM EST, we do have some more delicious spectating material to go off of and to talk amongst ourselves (like Linda Richman from Saturday Night Live told us on “Coffee Talk). With that said, watch for those falling rumors, coaster friends!!
