Darien Lake Starts Construction on Tantrum Vertical Lift Coaster
It’s only been a few months since Darien Lake announced they would be building “Tantrum”, a bran new vertical lift coaster in New York.
The park recently released images showing off the current state of construction. Crews on-site are currently working on installing the supports of the vertical lift as well as the supports at the bottom of the inclined pretzel inversion.
The new coaster will reach speeds of 52 mph with a 98-foot completely vertical lift and a 97-degree drop. Riders will encounter 3 inversions during the 1246 foot long course!
When completed the coaster should look similar to the sketches given to the town for the permit application. The ride is the third Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter 380 to be installed following Iron Shark at Galveston Pleasure Pier and Krater at Parque Del Cafe.
Darien Lake amusement park has been owned and operated by various companies over the past few decades such as; Six Flags, Herschend Family Entertainment, Premier Parks, and even Funtime Inc. — who also owned the beloved Geauga Lake in Ohio. Just last year it was purchased by EPR Properties, a Kansas City, Mo.-based real estate investment trust. Although, EPR owns Darien Lake, Premier Parks will continue lease and operate the park.
Tantrum will be Darien Lake’s eighth coaster. The park is scheduled to open for the 2018 season on May 5th. However, Tantrum isn’t expected to open until May 26th.
