Central Florida Theme Parks Prepare for Hurricane Matthew
Hurricane Matthew is upon the Central Florida area, and for the first time in a very long time, ALL Central Florida theme parks remain closed on Friday, October 7. Most closed early Thursday, October 6.
Here is everything we know so far:
- All four Walt Disney World parks closed at 5 PM on Thursday and are closed all day October 7.
- Both Disney water parks are closed October Thursday and Friday.
- Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was cancelled Thursday.
- Disney Springs and ESPN closed at 5 PM Thursday and are closed Friday.
- Both Universal parks closed at 5 PM Thursday and remained closed Friday. City Walk closed at 5 PM as well and will be closed Friday too.
- Halloween Horror Nights was cancelled both Thursday and Friday night.
- Wet N Wild closed at 2 PM Thursday and remains closed Friday.
- SeaWorld Orlando closed at 2 PM on Thursday and will be closed Friday.
- Aquatica closed all day October 6 and 7.
- Discovery Cove closed at 4 PM Thursday and remains closed Friday.
- Legoland is closed Friday.
- Orlando Eye is closed with no estimated opening date. Sea Life Aquarium and Madamme Tussauds Wax Museum remain open.
This is a notice to Universal team members on the team member Web site.
As of Friday, Busch Gardens Tampa remains open and is currently monitoring the weather. Adventure Island is already closed, since it is only open on weekends. Howl O Scream remains open as planned.
All parks are monitoring the weather and plan to reopen on Saturday, October 8.
All of the parks are working with their guests to either reschedule or rebook, and refunds are being given in some circumstances. Universal is compensating their employees for the lost time, however Disney is not.
We hope everyone remains safe during this time. The last time any Disney parks were closed for weather was Hurricane Jeanne in 2004. Disney closed twice on September 4 and 5, 2001 for Hurricane Frances, and on September 11, 2001 prior to that.
