Cedar Point Makes Huge Announcement About King James!
Earlier this year Cedar Point announced that they would rename a coaster after Lebron James if the NBA player would return to the Cleveland Cavs. Well, Lebron inked a deal to play for the Cavaliers leaving Cedar Point with a promise to keep.
After months of various rumors and speculations Cedar Point and the LeBron James Foundation has announced a partnership that goes far beyond renaming a roller coaster.
Cedar Point and LeBron James have announced that they will be partnering to bring the “Wheels for Education” program to new levels. Together they will work to positively affect the lives of children and young adults through education and activities.
The highlight of this new partnership will take place next summer when Cedar Point hosts all of the kids who are actively involved in the foundation’s “Wheels for Education” program and Akron I PROMISE Network for a day of fun with their families in the program’s annual “I PROMISE Family Reunion” event.
Additionally, next spring, Cedar Point will hold a first ride auction with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the LeBron James Family Foundation.
Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards said:
“After speaking with everyone involved, we wanted to do something far bigger and better than renaming a roller coaster in LeBron’s name. We are thrilled to be ongoing partners by making a lasting impact for kids in Northeast Ohio. LeBron wanted it that way, and we couldn’t agree more.”
Michele Campbell, Executive Director of the LeBron James Family Foundation added:
“The Foundation is extremely excited about this new partnership because it’s a long-term commitment that will have benefits for our kids and their families for years to come. “One of the fundamental goals of the Wheels for Education program and the Akron I PROMISE Network is to provide our students with opportunities and experiences they might not otherwise have access to, and this partnership with Cedar Point does exactly that.”
Once Wheels for Education students reach middle school, they graduate into the Foundation’s Akron I PROMISE Network, where they will continue to receive academic support and interventions until graduation. The first class of Wheels for Education students will graduate in 2021.
It may not have been what people were expecting, but the outcome is for a great cause! Cedar Point has been increasingly involved in charitable partnerships over the last few years with 1st / last ride auctions, such as Disaster Transports last ride, as well as various special events.
More plans will be announced in the future on how the two companies will work together, but today they kept a promise.
