Cedar Point Closing Early And Releases Statement
Cedar Point is no stranger to water main breaks in the city of Sandusky…
The Coaster Capital of the World has experience yet another unfortunate break at approximately 7 p.m. this evening (July 30, 2016). Cedar Point has issued the following statement.
7/30/16 (approx 8:00 p.m.)
The statement reads:
“At approximately 7 p.m. tonight, the City of Sandusky experienced a water main break on the main line that supplies water to Cedar Point. The City of Sandusky quickly responded and is currently working to repair the system. Without our normal water supply, and due to safety concerns, the park will be closing early tonight.
We will have more updates for guests right here as soon as they become available“.
Guests that were still in the park when the park was evacuated were offered tickets to come back another day. Hotels on the Cedar Point property were evacuated for safety. Guests were offered free bottled water, some guests offered rooms at Breakers Express which is at the end of the causeway, many were refunded for the night which left them scrambling to find another hotel off-site at late hours.
If you are traveling to Cedar Point on Sunday, July 31, 2016 you may want to check CedarPoint.com, call the park ahead of time, or go to the park’s Facebook or Twitter pages to see if it will open as scheduled at 10am. For the most current updates we recommend following Cedar Point and their Director of Communications, Tony Clark on twitter. They can be followed at @CedarPoint and @TonyClarkCP.
This is the second time in 2016 Cedar Point was forced to close early. Sunday. June 5th, storms blew through Sandusky knocking down power lines and causing damage to the causeway. The park also had a lack of power to operate the rides adequately. Cedar Point was closed until Tuesday the 7th for that outage.
This comes just after the city of Sandusky spent $315,000 in local water funds last month to improve water mains servicing Cedar Point. Engineers estimated the improvements would only cost $250,000, though it came in 26 percent above their projections. More on that expense here.
This is very unfortunate as the park is currently open until Midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 11PM every other day of the week through August 14th celebrating its Cedar Point Nights Beach Party.
