Carolina Harbor Waterpark coming to Carowinds!
On Thursday, August 27th, Carowinds announced what will be making a big splash at the park in 2016! As we wrote to you recently, the Charlotte, North Carolina based park has dropped hints in anticipation of their big announcement with the social media hashtag, #WaterYouDoing2016. Starting next season, Boomerang Bay will be known as Carolina Harbor Waterpark and is billed as a historic transformation for the park; this will be the fifth name for the area and looks to be the most exciting era yet.
Not only will Carowinds be refreshing current attractions in the waterpark, they will also be adding new ones for the whole family. This also means they will double the number of water slides that guests can ride & slide on for water thrill fun. With the names of the attractions alone, guests will be treated to an upgraded experience when they step into the Carolina Harbor for some splish, splashin’ good times. Whether you want water slide action, a multi-level water play area or a surfs-up-dude approved wave pool, there’s big things coming next year at Carowinds. Let’s have a look at what will be in store for guests when they soak it all in come 2016!
Blackbeard’s Revenge will be a water slide complex that’ll be six stories tall and will have three attractions, which feature six incredible slides. Pirate’s Plank will have guests shooting down a vertical free fall, after the floor drops out from underneath. This similar type of water slide complex is also coming to Kings Island next season under the name Tropical Plunge. Cannonball Drop will feature an enclosed chute that’ll twist and turn riders with four intense 360-degree turns. Then, there’s Captain’s Curse, which will shoot guests down a series of twists and turns; these may not be roller coasters but these will provide plenty of thrills! For those who remember, Blackbeard’s Revenge was also the name of a ride that was in the park several years ago.
Seaside Splashworks is where the whole family can soak-up the water attraction fun with this new, expanded two-acre area. The multi-level play structure will feature more than 80 elements to play with like several dozens of interactive spray jets, water guns, adventure-ful net bridges, fantastic water wheels, six awesome water slides and a ginormous 423-gallon tipping bucket! That really, really big bucket will drench everything below it; this area will be a great combination of entertainment, adventure and relaxing in the sun.
Myrtle Turtle Beach is indeed inspired by Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and this new play area is catered towards families and their toddlers. There’s plenty of water fun with the water jets that spray everywhere and the interactive water play area; meanwhile, the parents will have the opportunity to have shade and seclusion, as indicated by the cabanas in the above top picture. Kiddy Hawk Cove is inspired by Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, which is billed as the birthplace of flight. In this fun area, there’s additional spray jets, splash areas and more. This area and the Seaside Splashworks will create two acres of family focused attractions in the new Carolina Harbor.
Surf Club Harbor is where you can catch some waves, dude! The new 27,000 square foot wave pool will provide all a catch of the waves and there are eight giant generators that dole out massive waves that go up to six feet high. Children are going to be a fan of the interactive water geysers at the base of the pool, which are designed with them in mind! There will be live entertainment on the outdoor stage nearby while making waves in the wave pool. Maybe Carowinds can use the stage to host Battle of the Bands, North Carolina and South Carolina style, on Friday nights. Another option could be doing karaoke in an open mic style; these possibilities are kind of endless! In addition to the new water attractions, there will also be a new restaurant called Harbor House, which will have two 2,400 square feet outdoor patios. Other upgrades include a new bath house and restrooms, 40 new cabanas, 1,100 new lounge chairs, sand volleyball courts and a full service bar.
Some other exciting additions to the park in 2016 include the new Starbucks that’s 3,000 square feet and is being added by the park entrance. The java venue will have indoor seating for 100 guests and offers your Starbucks favorites. Coming in June of next year will be a new 30-minute live show called Cirque Imagine and features performers doing Cirque du Soleil-esque acts, including spinning inside a cyr wheel, which is a large metal ring. Another performer exhibited skills at the announcement at Carowinds’ Harmony Hall on Thursday by bike hopping over three people.
For fans that love to get meal or drink deals, you’ll be in for a treat in 2016 at Carowinds! The park will unveil All Season Drink Bottles, which allows for guests to get unlimited refills in the bottle all season for $22.99 or get free refills for a day and $1.00 refills for the rest of the season for $10.99. Also, we’ll be on the look out for an announcement from Carowinds in October as Carowinds’ Vice-President of Marketing hinted for us to “Get ready to soil your plants“! This has been an incredible, high-profile season for the park and they are only going to get more attractive to thrill enthusiasts with the continuing work of their $50 million multi-year project.
