Busch Gardens Williamsburg Closes Curse of DarKastle Ride Forever
Busch Gardens Williamsburg has officially announced the permanent closure of the Curse of DarKastle dark attraction. In a post made on the park’s Facebook page, the park elaborated that while the ride maintained a loyal following over the last 13 years, the closure will allow new & exciting opportunities for Howl-O-Scream, Christmas Town, & other events.
Curse of DarKastle was a hybrid ride which combined roving motion-simulating vehicles, 3D projection animation, physical sets, in-vehicle audio and special effects (wind, water, fog, and lighting), all perfectly synchronized into one thrilling attraction. The ride closed before the end of the busy summer season in 2017 as the park planned to fit a new haunted house experience inside of the ride building for Howl-O-Scream. Then, the ride stayed closed during Christmas as the castle structure was re-purposed as part of the new Santa meet & greet area for Christmas Town. The ride never re-opened. Just like that, after 13 years, it’s now officially closed forever. We say goodbye with one final video…
Busch Gardens plans to transform the ride building into a special events venue starting this year. But, they want help from the fans! They have decided to let the public select a name of the new facility. Gartensburg Castle, NewKastle, and Oktoberfest Palaste, are the three choices. Fans can vote for their favorite on the parks facebook post by clicking here. Voting ends Friday, January 26 at noon EST.
It’s always very sad when parks close attractions during the off season without giving guests the opportunity for one last ride. For DarKastle, there was no formal announcement, no last rides event, no farewell track walk — nothing. Now, the only way to take that one final ride is in the video below..
