Major Changes Coming to Kings Dominion

When Kings Dominion opens its gates for the 2018 season next month, guests will notice a lot of new changes around the park, new ride names, PLUS the addition of the new Twisted Timbers roller coaster! (See the new trains here).

Twisted Timbers is located in the Candy Apple Grove area of the park. When a park debuts a shiny new coaster, that usually comes with renovations to its surrounding areas. The Candy Apple Grove area is getting a makeover to coincide with the opening of the new coaster. Re-energizing this sections is awesome since it’s an area that hasn’t had much change in over a decade. Some of the asphalt is being replaced with decorative pavers, the restrooms are being renovated, new lighting installed, new seating, and fresh paint. In addition, a new festival plaza is being added the the Grove as well.

The Rock Shop, a gift shop located next to Apple Zapple (formerly Ricochet) will become Twist & Shop and will be your go-to location for Twisted Timbers merchandise.

Two fan favorite roller coasters are being renamed for 2018 and getting new signage. First is Ricochet, a wild mouse style coaster. It will be renamed to Apple Zapple and will debut when the 2018 season kicks off with an all new color scheme and paint job. Painting has already begun!

The other coaster being renamed is Rebel Yell. The wooden racing coaster will be renamed Racer 75 with a bran new logo. Park reps say the new name is a nod to both the year the coaster opened (1975) and to the American Coaster Enthusiasts who founded the group after an event on Rebel Yell in 1978. (rACEr 75 – get it?!). With all the political contravesy happening in the South over the past few months, fans can’t help but wonder how much that played into Rebel Yell’s name change.

In addition to the new name, Kings Dominion is amidst an ongoing refurbishment as they continue to replace sections of track to create a SMOOTHER riding experience. It’s really nice to see a classic woody being refurbished with wood these days opposed to it being turned into a hybrid!

And for our favorite announcement — Dinner Bell eatery will become The Mac Bowl. You’ll be able to create your own gourmet mac-n-cheese bowls and WE. CAN’T. WAIT!

Excited yet? Wait, there’s more… you can see and try all of these new additions before opening day!

Get a sneak peek of all the renovations and take a ride on Twisted Timbers before opening day with a Season Pass. Passholders will be able to attend an exclusive Passholder Preview Night on Friday, March 23! For tickets and more information, visit the official Kings Dominion website.
