A Look Inside Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar At Disney Springs
Quench your thirst for action at this 1940’s airplane hangar turned dive bar… which happens to be the ex-home of Indiana Jones’ sidekick and pilot!
How did Indiana Jones’ barnstorming pilot Jock Lindsey end up in Disney Springs?
The two globetrotters stumbled on Disney Springs in 1938 while chasing down a mythology-based tip in central Florida. Attracted to the town’s natural springs and lush terrain, Jock bought some waterfront property and eventually settled down, piloting seaplane tours across the fast-growing Sunshine State.
Jock eventually built an airplane hangar, air tower and runway, and invited fellow members of The Society of Explorers and Adventurers to pay him a visit. His home base soon became a popular stopover and watering hole for world travelers and locals alike. And it was then that Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar was born!
Today, thrill-seeking families cross borders and continents to soak up the rugged charm of this artifact-strewn hangar bar, with its spare airplane parts, salvaged equipment, and dusty mementos of glory days gone by. We’ve been there many times since its grand opening, but since we stopped by for lunch again, we figured it would be a good time for a little photo tour update!
What is Disney Springs? The complex opened on March 22, 1975 as the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village and has been expanded and renamed at other times over the years. It was first renamed Walt Disney World Village in 1977; then to Disney Village Marketplace in 1989; and afterward to Downtown Disney in 1997. In 2013, plans were announced for a three-year renovation of the complex, and on September 29, 2015, the name officially changed from Downtown Disney to Disney Springs.
Disney Springs is a shopping, dining and entertainment center in Walt Disney World Resort that is currently undergoing an expansion. When construction is completed in mid-2016, there will be 4 distinct neighborhoods to explore: The Landing, Marketplace, West Side and Town Center. With over 150 different stores, restaurants and entertainment venues planned, Disney Springs will be one of the most exciting destinations of its kind in Central Florida.
The Springs is open during the construction process. Guests are welcomed to enjoy over 70 unique retail, dining, and entertainment offerings that are currently open.
