A Visit to Disney’s New Jungle Cruise Themed Restaurant: Skipper Canteen

Last week we stopped by Disney’s Magic Kingdom to visit the new Jungle Cruise themed restaurant, Skipper Canteen. The first we heard about the new restaurant was at the D23 Expo 2015. Since then, the jungle cruise themed restaurant has been built and had it’s official grand opening.

The Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen table service restaurant is located in Adventureland, behind Sunshine Tree Terrace. The space formerly housed the Adventureland Veranda restaurant, and more recently a meet and greet with Tinker Bell.

To no surprise, new restaurant is very well themed and offers a very unique style of food that the Magic Kingdom has never had before.

The restaurant is comprised of three main rooms: the Mess Hall, the Jungle Room, and the S.E.A. Room. The entire restaurant was themed to be based around the turn of the century.

This is the first table service restaurant on Disney property that won’t be accepting advance dining reservations. To dine here, one member of your party gives their phone number to a host or hostess in front of the restaurant, and then you receive a text message with your approximate seating time. Simple enough!

Once seated, we our host greeted us and introduced us to their menu… with some cheesy jokes of course! It just wouldn’t be right if cheesy jokes were’t included since it is… themed after the Jungle Cruise.

They even offered an allergy friendly menu!skipper canteen menu

Once we looked over the menu, which offered a very good selection, we decided on our entrees. We ordered the Rice Noodle Bowl with Chicken and the Skipper Mac and Cheese! Both were delicious, but the Mac and Cheese was REALLY good! If visiting Disney, we highly suggest trying this dish at least once.
