Cedar Point; The Roller Coaster Capital of the World is working on adding free in park WiFi for their guests!

Jason McClure – Cedar Point GM

Jason McClure, Cedar Point GM, spoke with a reporter and said:

“the challenge is providing a strong signal throughout the 365-acre park. We already offer free WiFi for guests at our hotels, so now it is just a matter of working out logistics of expanding that coverage area. We want to stay connected with our guests.”

Cedar Point is known for it’s highly creative ways to incorporate social media into their day-to-day operations. Their media team does a great job incorporating tweet-up contests, news releases, live updates and much more with their guests.

Tony Clark – Cedar Point Director of Communications

After the conversation with McClure, Tony Clark, Cedar Point’s Director of Communications posted on his twitter account saying the WiFi program won’t be running until AFTER the 2015 season.

This is very exciting news, but is still a long shot from being reality. Hopefully the park will be on some sort of super repeater satellite system so that the nodes aren’t jammed up. Smart phones currently struggle while at large parks such as Cedar Point from all the heavy data usage making phones die faster from the constant data battle. The park did install charging stations and lockers with built in chargers to help guests stay juiced up.

McClure also mentioned that Cedar Point is one three amusement parks in the Cedar Fair chain planning to offer the free Wi-Fi first, but didn’t say which other parks would be in the mix.

Until the park officially announces the release for in park WiFi, take it for what it is, hearsay…
