Gröna Lund, Stockholm’s iconic amusement park, has announced an exciting new attraction for 2025: the super swing ride Pumpen.

Scheduled to debut in April, Pumpen will bring a unique thrill to Northern Europe, promising weightlessness, gravity-defying drops, and exhilarating speed. The attraction, suitable for all ages, blends tradition and innovation by reimagining the classic swing experience with cutting-edge technology and an industrial design inspired by the park’s rich history.

This new attraction, only the second of its kind worldwide and the first in Northern Europe, was conceptualized by Jakob Fagerström, Creative Director at Parks & Resorts. The design combines elements of Art Deco with motifs inspired by a 1930s variety show building once located in the park. Drawing from Gröna Lund’s 140-year legacy, the attraction’s aesthetic resembles an industrial water pump, celebrating the park’s heritage with a modern twist.

Set within Gröna Lund’s Lilla Området section, Pumpen features two gondolas, each seating ten riders with forward- and backward-facing options, for a total capacity of 20 passengers per ride. Reaching a height of 39 feet, the ride is set to accommodate all guests, with a minimum height requirement of just 37.4 inches for those accompanied by an adult.

While the park didn’t provide any animations of Pumpen specifically, we do have a general video from the manufacturer showcasing a Super Swing ride in action.

“Whether you’re 4 or 84, Pumpen will deliver a thrill like no other,” said Jan Eriksson, CEO of Gröna Lund. “With pendulum and pumping movements, Pumpen offers a family-friendly yet thrilling experience, creating a stomach-churning, gravity-defying ride.”

Located on Djurgården Island in the Swedish capital, Gröna Lund is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world and a cherished part of the Parks & Resorts Scandinavia family, which also includes Kolmården, Furuvik, and Skara Sommarland. Featuring a variety of attractions common to amusement parks, such as a tunnel of love, a funhouse, and eight roller coasters, Gröna Lund offers something for everyone.

While there are plenty of theme parks across Europe that might not be widely known, Gröna Lund stands out for its rich history and commitment to providing thrilling experiences. With the introduction of Pumpen, the park promises to honor its legacy while captivating new generations with this groundbreaking super swing attraction.

In the U.S., Gröna Lund is typically pronounced as “gro-na lund,” where the “ö” is pronounced like the “i” in “bird.” However, the exact pronunciation may vary since many people might not be familiar with the Swedish sounds. The emphasis is usually on the first syllable of each word.

Pumpen is scheduled to open in April 2025.
