Jack Morey, Co-Owner of Wildwood’s Morey’s Piers, Dies at 63
In a heartfelt announcement, the community of Wildwood is grieving the loss of Jack Morey, the creative mastermind behind Morey’s Piers for the past thirty years.

In a press release, the company stated that Jack, who avoided formal titles, served as the Company’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, and was the driving force behind the mantra, “It will be beautiful… we change everything.”
Jack’s life was a vibrant tapestry of passion, creativity, and an unyielding love for the beauty of people, experiences, and life itself—often viewed from an upside-down perspective through his spontaneous handstands. Known for his eccentric and outgoing personality, Jack had a knack for deep and swift conversations. He often disregarded conventional boundaries, frequently asking new acquaintances, “What do you love?” A question that invited profound reflection and genuine curiosity.

Jack’s fascination with people, design, and public spaces worldwide fueled his life’s work, leaving an indelible mark on Wildwood. His visionary projects include the Rio Grande Avenue Gateway, the iconic “Wildwoods” sign, the Wildwood Dog Park and Beach, the Socratic Outdoor Learning Center, the Doo-Wop style architecture, Starlux Mini Golf, and his most recent endeavor, the Big Little 9 Golf Course. Morey’s Piers and Resorts, where his unique vision thrived, also stand as testaments to his boundless creativity. Drawing inspiration from unexpected sources, Jack infused his passion for beauty, art, and human interaction into every project he touched. He often described Wildwood as “not a place for everybody, but it is a place for anybody,” and when asked about his favorite project, his answer was always, “the next one, but first we must fall in love.”

Jack’s unconventional perspective often led to combining seemingly incongruent elements, which somehow worked together harmoniously. Shunning meetings, committees, and offices—famously joking that budgets were for wimps—Jack was most often found in the field, dreaming, designing, and paving the way for his next vision. His approach and passion are irreplaceable inspirations that the Morey’s Piers team will strive to emulate as they continue his mission to make Morey’s Piers the “Greatest Seaside Park in the World.”
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack’s true passion was his family. He cherished his wife of 36 years, Karen, and their two children, Zack (Morgan) and Jordan (Alyssa), along with their beloved dogs, currently Hobbes, Finley, and Frankie. As a grandfather to Jack, Miller, and Nora, he was the first to get on the floor to teach them to crawl, spending as much time on the ground as the newborns.

Jack Morey’s legacy of curiosity, inspiration, and love for life, people, and creativity will forever resonate with those who knew him. His influence is a gift that will continue to inspire the Wildwood community and beyond.
Jack’s nephew, Kyle Morey, the third-generation director of marketing for Morey’s Piers and a family spokesperson, revealed that Jack’s passing at the age of 63 was due to myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood cancer. Jack was a cherished figure in the community.
The staff at Coaster Nation extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life.
