New Roller Coaster And Water Ride Coming To Adventureland Iowa in 2023
Vikings are invading Adventureland! In 2023, guests will join Viking invaders in a new themed area featuring two all-new thrilling rides…. intertwined!

The Flying Viking roller coaster will soar over, under and around family water ride Draken Falls. Hang on as Flying Viking travels 1,300+ feet of twisting, turning, exhilarating track. Then brave the rushing waters of Draken Falls with towering plunges and multiple splashdowns in a six-person Viking ship.
Designed by Italian ride manufacturer Zamperla, these landmark additions will give Adventureland the first super flume ride in the Midwest, its seventh roller coaster, and just the second intertwining flume – coaster combination in the country.

Vikings invading Adventureland Resort next summer, made a detour in Orlando today. The Viking brutes joined park representatives and ride manufacturer Zamperla at the International Association of Amusement Park and Attractions’ (IAAPA) International Expo to unveil the ships that will set sail next summer on the Midwest’s first super flume water ride, Draken Falls.

Each of the ten Viking ships seats six people within the spacious three-row boat. Nordic theming will turn riders into real, live Vikings as they take on Draken Falls. The falls alternate between tranquil beauty and exhilarating thrills, with a 40-foot tall panoramic view interrupted by multiple splash moments as the ship reaches speeds of up to 33 miles per hour.

“The reimagination of the flume vehicle was done with total cost of ownership at the forefront of the design; therefore reducing annual maintenance costs,” said Zamperla North American Sales Manager Michael Coleman. “The boats can hold up to six people, and feature state of the art individual lap bars. With more seats than a traditional flume vehicle, larger groups can ride together, increasing hourly capacity.”

The new Super Flume ride features the biggest wave of any flume ride on the market, plus airtime and speed hill moments to offer the splashes of a shoot-the-chute with a traditional log ride experience.

“Our guests voiced a desire for a new log flume ride, and this next-generation version is bigger and better than anything else in the country,” said Adventureland General Manager Bill Lentz. “These unique Viking ships will help immerse guests into the new themed land for a whole new adventure at the Home of Iowa’s Best Thrills!”
Draken Falls is just one of two new integrated rides manufactured by Zamperla coming to the Altoona theme park next year. The Flying Viking roller coaster will soar over, under and around Draken Falls.

With a minimum height requirement of just 36 inches when accompanied by an adult, the Flying Viking will be a perfect first roller coaster for young Vikings in training. Riders will need to be at least 42 inches tall to set sail on Draken Falls.

The addition of two new rides in 2023 mark the 10th and 11th new, family-friendly attractions added by Palace Entertainment since purchasing Adventureland last winter. In 2022, the park enhanced its special events lineup, adding new twists to popular traditions like summer concerts, the Last Day at the Bay water park party, Oktoberfest and their inaugural Halloween event called Phantom Fall Fest.
