New Roller Coaster Coming To Worlds of Fun To Celebrate 50th Anniversary

When Worlds of Fun opens its gates for the 2023 season, guests will enjoy a 50th-anniversary celebration that looks back on five decades of fun – but also launches a new roller as well as new experiences for years to come.

Among the new fun for guests in 2023 is a re-imagined Zambezi Zinger, a thrilling new coaster in the heart of the African Serengeti that will bring back memories of the original Zinger while offering an entirely new experience built on a hybrid structure of galvanized steel and wood.

With a top speed of 45 miles per hour, the new and improved Zambezi Zinger will be similar to the original, but with a few changes… Designed by Great Coasters International (GCI) and Skyline Attractions, the new Zambezi Zinger will utilize GCI’s new Titan Track and new Infinity Flyer trains.

The new Zambezi Zinger will drop guests from an iconic spiral lift hill into a low-to-the-ground track that races through the trees and terrain of the African Serengeti.

Packed with several moments of airtime, banked turns and quick transitions, riders are connected to the feeling of an epic safari chase and fast-paced adventure!

The Zambezi Zinger was one of the original rides when Worlds of Fun opened in 1973. Riders sat in toboggan-style seating and reached a maximum height of 57 feet. The new edition of the ride will stand 74 feet tall, but still go through the trees and terrain of the African Serengeti like the original.

“Our 50th Anniversary celebration will give our guests the opportunity to reflect on and share all their fond memories of the park, and we will help them do that in a variety of ways,” said Tony Carovillano, vice president and general manager. “At the same time, we will be introducing them to entirely new experiences. The park is being re-themed so that everything our guests see and experience will help them feel like they are truly on an adventure around the world.”
